I still prefer stick to offical update as I use the phone as my portable laptop to access company email when I at site. So the phone must be stable. I know the avantage of root but saw you all post some hiccup some rooting or custom rom. Pretty sceptical. What to do, wait lo....Saw my brother IP4 so smooth, kind itchy. But SGS can bluetooth and direct usb to window, linux help me a lot in my work!

Ok. Maybe this CNY will give it a try. I think better start will factory data reset before jump to rooting. Did factory data reset will wipe off all the cache and data like the stock phone? Then it should be 2.1 right? Then direct update to 2.2 should be better than my current condition as too much data inside. Any suggestion? Heard Samsung void warranty after rooting.

I am using 2.2. Phone is sluggish even with the launcher pro. Everytime I check the task manager there must be around 10 application running. I make it zero and after few minutes some application is running. I have uncheck background data and unnecessary application. Don't why still have background application running. Let than 8 applications and game install. Pretty sluggish.

Hi all sifu,
I need some guideline to install the speedmod-kernel-k12q-500hz from hardcore. Now I on the stock latest firmware which is Build number FROYO.DXJPE. My phone is stock with 3 combo button work without root. Shall I follow the procedure below?
1. http://touristinparadise.blogspot.com/2010...to-install.html
2. Shall I root my phone before follow step 1. Any recommendation? I just try update.zip method but not working.
3. What else should I beware of?

Hope you all could give me some guideline, this is my first smart phone. My last was SE K750i. I have this SGS since last year July. Can not tahan it laggy anymore. Want to unleash the potential of it. Thanks in advance.

1. Yes, you can follow the guide.
2. No need, even tough you flash Speedmod. The root function will not activated unless you enable it in the recovery menu. Update.zip will not work in Recovery 3e (DXJPA and DXJPE), u need odin for this. Unless you have DXJG4. After flashing the custom kernel, you will get the recovery 2e.

Ok. I will start this project now. Let see any problem later.

hi kcwo, may i ask have you updated the phone to the latest firmware DXJPE and still feel lag?

p/s: this question got nothing to do with installing speedmod
*
Hi Silentser, I installed it from kies and it very laggy. After done the factory reset it more smooth now. But when I open application like email, photo, pdf and etc it still take up some time. That why I want to install the speedmod kernel.

Hi Silentser, I have enable all tweak except the last two with no recommended
1. Enable Android logger
2. Read-write /system

And at the SpeedMod Universal Lagfix menu, I see this. Shall I take any actions on those belows?
1. Root / Install Superuser
2. Lagfix options
3. TWEAK options (Done already)
4. BLN option (??)
5. Set default permission

Hope you could give me some guideline

1. You should already be rooted. No action needed
2. This is to enable lagfix. Do this if needed.
4. Backlight Notification. If you noticed, galaxy s has no led notification. If you enable this, any incoming notifications will light up the backlight at menu and back button. Alternative: Install Noled from Market.
5. No need to do this.
Not in Msia so cannot. Cannot hunt for lenglui also, taken. sweat.gif

Thanks gmhafiz. I feel my phone is a bit faster to open the application. However, when I go into call log, scoll down still a bit jerking like before. Anyway, it give better respond now.

I also got random jerkiness even on super-optimized kernel. Probably it is because of samsung's poorly coded touchwiz. I don't really know.

Ok. Maybe Samsung issue. My next project is to flash to Darky rom which is quite popular in the discussion. Maybe need you all guide line again. Thanks.

try other launcher like launcher pro, and adw ex, or you really into touchwiz you can install the modded touchwizGTG

i think the animation is what cause you feel the jerk, when im on stock touchwiz fllipping through the app drawer you will not as smooth as iphone, but when i change to other launcher,  it flow like water
*
I already have the launcher pro installed with the highest speed setting. Whenever access to call log scolling down, the photo is flicking ( I don't have photo of contact installed) and scolling is jerking.

speedmod + darkyy rom is excellent. You can follow the guide in the link you posted.
1.. See 3 button combo guide at http://darky.ficeto.com/community/index.ph...time-users.315/
2. There's Superuser.apk app in the /system/app folder. Can browse it by using root explorer app.
3. If you root by z4root or oclf, you can unroot with the same app. For other method, search this thread because I've posted the howto.

Rooting is just having access/permission to some stuff normal people shouldn't do. If you unroot, you lose the access. That's all.

Hi all, I have copy the update.zip and Darky rom in the SD folder. Then I boot into Recovery menu and try to appy sdcard:update.zip. It come out E: Can't open /mnt/sdcard/update.zip message. Installation abort.
Is this procedure I no need to follow as I already root and in the ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.1.0??
Shall I wipe data /factory reset??

u got the wrong step there...do not apply sdcard:update.zip...did your rename the rom tu update.zip?...just leave the name as per your downloaded ...and install using install zip file from sd card...than search the file with same name as your downloaded file

Thanks a lot. I installing it now. It working and be patient. Will update the status later. Will it affect my modem or csc after installation?

I'm on tongue.gif  yes, there're people mentioning that disabling tweaks give better batt life in tat thread. But I don't think so provided that u enabled all the recommended tweaks. u might want to try that out urself. compare idle and when it's running smile.gif
*
My experience is no impact on battery life. I have enable all tweak and lagfix also. Just experience it for one day. And yesterday flash to Darky extreme rim with voodoo. Phone smoother than speedmod k12t alone but baterry drain faster. Tonight will flash it again using speedmod kernel instead of voodoo.

u'll have to try K12Q biggrin.gif

I have try out the K12Q. Slightly faster than stock 2.2.1. Really scare to flash on the first time. Now is testing the Darky 9.0.2 with voodoo kernel. Everthing except call log is smooth and fast. However battery drain really fast. Did you experience the same?
