QUOTE(gmhafiz @ Jan 11 2011, 09:50 PM)
Seems like the majority of people here uses darkyy's rom. I can see why his rom is popular.
First, he puts the word gingerbread in the title post. Many users can be mislead into thinking that the rom is gingerbread 2.3.1
Secondly, he pre-installs themes and icons. It looks beautiful out of box.
Thirdly, he has got a video on how to install it.
He has improved a lot since he first started making his rom - made by copying doc-kalpik's base rom. However, I cringe everytime I look at his v8 changelog:
Seriously??? It looks as if he is desperate.

As for me, I prefer doc's rom and occasionally I install insanity rom because I like a minimalistic rom. I also feel more comfortable installing rom from experienced rom cooker. doc's kitchen is very handy to cook my own rom too.

The speed of the rom largely contributed by the kernel like speedmod, super-optimized, ya-ok, trasig, etc while signal&gps depends on the modem. Thus the differences between roms are how bugs are squashed and how they are supported, etc.

I now use insanity. It is very stripped down and I dictate what I want to include in the rom. gingerbread keyboard (which works brilliantly) handily beats samsung keyboard hands down.

In you opinion, what made you choose darkyy. Also, have you tried other roms besides it?
*
rclxm9.gif I have not tried other roms other than Darky's ver 3.0, 4.0 and now 7.6, have not bothered to try 8.0 or wat ever it is at right now. I think Darky is either borderline kiasu or damn-kow enthusiastic about his rom. When I tested version 3.0 it was WAY better than my experience with Samsung stock rom which had really bad lag issues. So it was a big plus for me, and since it worked. I didn't really had the need (IMHO) to go try other roms. I live on my phone I install and use many apps, music, videos. Im just too lazy to flash and reflash my rom every other day. My friend has a clean set up every other day. doh.gif I think he tries out every ROm out there for his HTC desire.

After a month or so of using 4.0 I finally moved up to 7.6 which was even better due to the community support given to darky. I'm still happy with it. Thats why even when 8.0 came out 3-4 days later I still have not upgraded. I think I'll wait for the real gingerbread.

so for me, it works, and if it works, I dont really want to break it. brows.gif

Cheers~

It's really up to you if you wanna stay with Darky 7x, but since the fella released non-wipe versions of his recent roms, I've been religiously updating to his latest. I mean it takes about 10-15 minutes to download the rom, 2 minutes to transfer it to the phone and probably at most 5-10 minutes to install it and get the phone booted up into the new rom. No data is lost, settings seem to be intact too, not really much to worry about, IMHO.

8.0 has been really cool. With speedmod K12* kernel added in, it's even better biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

P/S Just did a non-wipe upgrade for my colleague's SGS this morning, from her old 'stock JPO + speedmod k10*' to 'darky 8.0 + speedmod k12k' - didn't even break a sweat and a happy 'customer' makes for a happy me.

wakakkaka yeah .. thats what my friend w/ the Desire said... oh well.. I'll jump in if there is major changes. I cant get the lock screen background to change right now. dont know is the rom issue or something. I guess I got to swim in XDA for a while

I meant the video guide as a compliment, nothing wrong with it wink.gif The same as my second point.

I'm not pissed. I cringe. The wording gingerbread edition can confuse new users into thinking it a gingerbread version. In the first post, he puts up a screenshot with 2.3.1 firmware version. That, IMO is wrong. You can have fun cooking the rom, adding themes, mod, addons but not by editing build.prop into 2.3.1

p/s I just recently discovered that lowyat has v12 thread of sgs, today actually! that's very commendable rclxms.gif Looks like there are plenty of sgs users in msia.
*
On that I agree. it was quite confusing when I saw gingerbread edition. I was thinking, that was quick ! then realize it wasnt! cry.gif shocking.gif anyways WP7 is better than ios too (soon) !

and yes I too just realize this thread is now v12.. not long ago I was asking some random questions on v11.. how the thread flies! whistling.gif

Just curious guys...does Darky maintain some of the old touchwiz features like fit the puzzle to see missed calls/messages and swipe left on a contact's name to message/right to call?
*

Wow, that korean guy, already did what Supercurio was struggling to do. He implemented parametric eq that is much more user configurable than supercurio's. Crazy koreans! I am happy with the sound now! Only thing left is mic sensitivity.
*
whats that ? blink.gif sound ? EQ as in equalizer? where where!

I believe LED is the future. I don't see LCD tech advancing any further than LED will be.

Unfortunatley the apk file was removed from the Android Market since they changed regulations on gambling apps. The apk file can still be downloaded from the Full Tilt website although installing non market apps requires a few additional steps outlined

blush.gif Still available at getjar~ woot !
