QUOTE(Sylwest @ Jan 21 2011, 10:56 PM) really? Why my friend can't? It already connect to wife, but can't go to internet. She unroot and win7 64 bit make sure its "connected" on your laptop, not "identifying connection". click the wifi icon on the taskbar to check the status. it will ask for network location/type (home/work/public) after it successfully connected.Added on January 21, 2011, 10:59 pm really? QUOTE(holypredator @ Jan 22 2011, 11:06 AM) Ok ive tested this thoroughly but im not sure if this applies to others SGS this is A-GPS(Asisted-GPS) most GPS enabled phone have this function(connect to the internet to get faster GPS lock). The reason i got a lock in less than 30second EVEN @ indoors is due to an active internet connection Ive conducted a series of test on my phone and here is the result GPS Enable Wifi Disable - Lock time >100 sec.... Most of the time it did not lock at all and the amount of satalite found was around 1 to 2... GPS Enable Wifi Enable - Lock time <30sec .... GPS Enable Wifi Disable 3G Enable - Same as Wifi enable... Note : 1. I've conducted these test using GPS Status and TestLab 2. the "Use Wireless Network" was disable at all times throughout the test 3. All test was conducted with constant "Switch OFF" to ensure that it is not cause by the cache from previous test (I've found that REBOOT doesn't realy enable COLD start) Other reasons that might support my test: 1. When i was driving around yesterday to test the GPS ... there wasn't any active internet connection ..... 2. Previously after flashing Darky's ROM ... my wifi was on all the time when i tested the GPS ..... I havent tested out to see how it works outdoors or on the road with Internet connection... so im not sure how far this hypothesis is true... Added on January 22, 2011, 11:18 amit basically get the information of your location to ease the find of near satellite. This post has been edited by GothFebrio: Jan 22 2011, 11:18 AM |

QUOTE(holypredator @ Jan 22 2011, 11:40 AM) Yea.. cause i did not subscribe to DATA plan.... read my post.....one thing i was wondering.... Does normal GPS actualy requires internet to Lock??? or is it cause of SGS faultyness that causes this?? I always thought if without the "use wireless network" on ... internet connectivity would not have any affect on the GPS... Dont dare to try .... scare it made it worst.... and u know im a noob at these stuff.... hope some expert here would try because they can revert if theres any problem |

QUOTE(silentser @ Jan 22 2011, 11:49 AM) faster fix change the setting in gps.conf file that is store in system/etc, it change the gps server. it got something to do with this pool.server thing http://www.pool.ntp.org/en/, the default setting (even in asia firmware) is set to north-america server. just installed fasterfix, this should improve a-gps. thanks for the explanation.the fasterfix will change the setting from that(north-america) to asia. usually i set it myself and change it to our own malaysia server, logically it make the phone search server(satellite?) faster cause it is set to our own country, i want to help you but i already make the gps hardware fix so i cant comment anything as i always forgot to do before and after testing if the screws on the back of your SGS dont have sticker. you could open it up and do the hardware fix |

NTP_SERVER=asia.pool.ntp.org XTRA_SERVER_1=http://xtra1.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin XTRA_SERVER_2=http://xtra2.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin XTRA_SERVER_3=http://xtra3.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin SUPL_HOST=supl.google.com SUPL_PORT=7276 thanks for the reply. Added on January 22, 2011, 1:22 pm QUOTE(holypredator @ Jan 22 2011, 01:08 PM) possible but not always. after the gps locked u can turn off ur data/wifi. the next lock(same position, same time) without data will be as fast as A-GPS. QUOTE(holypredator @ Jan 22 2011, 01:53 PM) SEE GUYS??? thats what i mean... who the hell told u "use wireless network" is AGPS?......ALot people here dont GET WHAT I MEAN ..... I get fast lock through DATA .. but without using the "USE WIRELESS NETWORK" option... i know many of you kept assuming i DID .... I did not USE ANY AGPS bullshit .... i just use the NORMAL GPS option ... but for somereason .... the DATA helps it to lock ... "use wireless network" will locate your area if you are not using GPS. if u open google maps, u will see big circle around u. if u turn the option off u wont get any location except if u have GPS signal locked. Added on January 22, 2011, 7:23 pmsadly you cant turn off AGPS in galaxy s like how nokia phones can. the only way is to turn off ur data. QUOTE(silentser @ Jan 22 2011, 07:25 PM) question!!! : did you use gps status to check that? gps status download A-GPS data if im not mistaken, even without you checking the use wireless data in the setting. use wireless setting is NOT AGPS.try other like gps test. Added on January 22, 2011, 7:45 pmAGPS in galaxy s(and other android phone that support agps) will automatically be used when data/internet is available.
