was using ip4 before switch to galaxy s.
initially de screen colors are awesome and widgets/home screens are great.

but soon de fone became laggy and not as smooth compared to previous experience wt ip4.
den i read up abt de ways to speed it up, un-root, darky, lagfix, etc.
in the end, became too complicated.
even though xda forums, lowyat forums are filled wt info n friendly ppl, but too many short-forms and jargons.

then i wonder, paid so much for this fone but still must spend so much time to make it work properly?

so instead of continue to waste my time, switched back to de simple and effective ip4.

I believe you can get faster GPS lock if you enable "use wireless network" in the location and security settings. "Sensor aiding" will help to save on battery and lock faster still, I suppose... 

Btw, you always off your data internet connection while you are not in WIFI area?

faster fix change the setting in gps.conf file that is store in system/etc, it change the gps server. it got something to do with this pool.server thing http://www.pool.ntp.org/en/, the default setting (even in asia firmware) is set to north-america server.

the fasterfix will change the setting from that(north-america) to asia. usually i set it myself and change it to our own malaysia server, logically it make the phone search server(satellite?) faster cause it is set to our own country,

i want to help you but i already make the gps hardware fix so i cant comment anything as i always forgot to do before and after testing 

if the screws on the back of your SGS dont have sticker. you could open it up and do the hardware fix

just installed fasterfix, this should improve a-gps. thanks for the explanation.

You just have to enable DATA for A-GPS to work. Otherwise, wait 10 mins for it to lock.

Disable all sync, logout from Gmail/Latitude if you are afraid the data usage. A-GPS needs a least GPRS for it to works.

So, after all the ranting, it was down to user's problem eh?

normal gps dont use data... just off ur data and wifi... only turn on gps and it's possible to lock.

Its all depends on ur location; stationary or moving, inside building or outside, current weather, wear a casing for ur hp, the way u hold the hp and etc. I never use data (a-gps) to get gps lock. Normally it takes roughly around 3min to 5min to get first lock. It depends also on ur modem. Different modem setup will produce different result.

A-gps normally used data (gprs, edge, 3g) to get connected. U can also used wifi (only works with google navigation i guess) to get connected, but not so accurate. If u want a fast gps lock, use agps first to get initial lock. After u get the lock, disable it and use gps only.

The positioning server has effect only on the agps. If u use normal gps, changing the server wont give u a better conection on gps. Ive tested them already.

But still, the gps can still get locked even without data (agps off). Mine is working fine, and so do others. Try different method to get the best result.

Get a data plan. Enable "use wireless network" and "sensor aiding". Since this way is working for you. You can get the lowest plan because GPS doesn't consume much data...

My accuracy is 5 or 10m most of the time. However, yesterday whn I installed fasterfix n chose asia or custom, it went haywire. It lagged n frequently went offtrack. Had to disable it.

My accuracy is always above 15m if I test with LBS mode. No significant difference compare to V8.0. GPS still the same. No problem like before.

I think this accuracy is subjective. As long as it can lock satellites and show me driving on the correct lane then I'm fine with it.
