I always disabled EIST on all of my Intel CPUs. As long as your not putting crazy volts through it then you need not worry about the lifespan, also with regards to power consumption it will use more when disabled but your CPU will probably not be running at 100% load constantly anyway so the power consumption won't be that dramatic. My OC is 24/7 no power saving features, though a lot of the time I am just browsing and listening to music so its not like it's using up tons of electricity as it is.

EIST can be offset by adjusting C1E in RealTemp. Check/tick the C1E box to enable EIST so that your CPU speed wil relax to 1.6GHz or whatever lower during idle. But i dont think you would do this on every reboot. biggrin.gif

dude.. im having the same problem as well...i already set my cpu back to factory setting..(3.7GHz in Turbo)..but it always show 3.50Ghz without any drop...what should i do?
im quite confused with your statement before...which one do i need to disabled?EIST?

weird, since you have set back to default settings, EIST, C1E, C3/C6 is supposed to be enabled/auto. Just make sure that:
In bios enable EIST (speedstep), C1E, C3/6
In windows, change power management to balanced or power saver.
Other than that I really have no idea already. Maybe other forumers got idea  blush.gif

ya..i did checked it twice...its enabled and auto...but still the monitor reads the frequency as 3.50Ghz..its just happen after i make a OC test on it... icon_question.gif

for a'while'? for how long? its been a day though... hmm.gif

Added on April 20, 2012, 6:15 pmOk this is my prob....setting back my bios to default....at 1st it shows turbo frequency is 3700MHz...after stress test, this is what i found...

Is it normal? seems kinda weird because before i did any overclock, it can boost up to 3.7Ghz...to make it weirder, the cpu's constantly shows 3.4-3.5Ghz even the load is about 20-30%

Please guide and help me on this... icon_question.gif

I believe there is a Thermal limit being set somewhere. Show us your BIOS setting.

By default, Intel's spec is 95W TDP, meaning if the CPU total power consumption is capped at 95W. If all four cores are active and total power utilised exceeds 95W, it will automatically throttle down the cores and run within the TDP limit.

To overcome this, you will need to raise the TDP limit, in ASUS bios this is called CPU Power Management.

Becareful though, by lifting the TDP cap, your processor will tend to run hotter.

Ya sure..these are my setting taken by phone camera just now...note that i just REENABLED EPU..but still it possess the same frequency...

Friend, read up on Intel Turbo Boost Technology for a better understanding on how this works.

The 3.7GHz Turbo will only work if there is one core utilisation, if 4 cores are utilised all the cores will not go to 3.7GHz, it will go to 3.4GHz instead as per design of not to exceed the TDP.

Refer to this image for clearer explanation.

If you were to manually set a Turbo multiplier, this will overwrite the default setting and all four cores will go to the turbo value you specified.

ok i got the point...so how about my first prob...the frequency stays 3.4-3.5Ghz even the load is roughly 20-30% only....

i sense that this doesnt related to turbo boost, its something else... hmm.gif

Try this.

In your screenshot #4, set C3 and C6 to Enabled instead of Auto.

*20~30% load is enough to set the processor to kick into 3.4GHz+, try closing all programmes and monitor again under 0~1% load it EIST should kick in and set the processor to 1.6GHz when idle.
*
hmm, i've tried already...i can see some change in frequency...(sudden drop to 1.6 then going up back to 3.4/3.5 several times...
im not sure which programs do i need to close, already removed all active applications except in service tab and process tab...

maybe its because service/process tab requires 20-30% load of the system... hmm.gif sound logic but thanks for your help...

nah...for the time being im using auto setting..just want to test it first...
vcore pretty well i thing...1.39+-...temp somewhere around 80 degree...but it increase gradually since im using elite 311 plus, pretty bad for high OC.. blush.gif
