QUOTE(ati radeon @ May 3 2012, 10:17 PM)
hey there,

i have i5 2500k instead of ivy bridge for z77 mobo as its proven for now that 2500k is more stable than ivy during overclock.

my system is as stated in my siggy, can cm 212 evo do a nice enough cooling job to 4.5 GHz?

as long as ambient temp is cold/ not so warm, then its enough.
just make sure the temp not going over 80'C nod.gif

What to do. Anything below that won't boot.  cry.gif

if you can keep the temp below 80'C during load then its consider safe. nod.gif

when running prime it is below 80C, but when running IBT max temp 93 with average of 80 plus. Using Noctua D14 paired with 2 GTs

I have also tried 4.8Ghz at 1.488vcore (max load). Prime stable. But dare not try IBT  sweat.gif

Core temp is not the same as CPU temp.
Asus like other brands of mobos usually will report CPU temp. Core temp is more important here.

i try to set the multi to 50-53 but apparently cpuz in the windows still show 100 X 49 = 4.9Ghz only..
end up with increase the fsb to 103... any advice?

Sounds abnormal. By rights the BIOS wont down multi to 49x automatically for you if failed OC. Try updating BIOS, uninstall MSI OC Utility or put the CPU on other mobo and see how.

It's an ES maybe a rejected chip & capped at 49x LOL. I also saw someone selling 2600 but unlockable like 2600K.

i didn't install MSI OC utility.. ok will try on fatal1ty Z68 tonight smile.gif

update : didn't try using fatal1ty board as oredy success boot to windows with higher multi (52)
enable Cstate setting> no limit

what is the max safe Vcore. just wanna try how high this 2700K ES chip can go with safe voltage.
end up with setup in WC casing sweat.gif
very lazy to change the waterblock at first but when i saw the temp i was like shocking.gif
pretty low (40'C) compare to previous air cool (61'C)

Good to hear that you have found the culprit. I wouldnt change anything that i dont know.

Safe vcore? I think i'm the wrong person to answer this question lol. Dont go over 1.55v. Let it stay below 1.5v if possible.
Stop stressing it at 1.52v on air cooling/ regular wc & try to keep temps below 80C to prevent degradation.

owh for now i only dare to go 1.45Vcore. i'm using custom WC, ek XT360 rad with 2x120mm corsair fan + 1X120mm Delta fan
last night ambient temp was very cold. idle 36'C, load 59'C. will try to stress tem on saturday as i have final exam this week sweat.gif

using 4.5Ghz only at the moment
