ya wats the different or impact? default setting is high vdroop.
*
Low Vdroop = increased voltage under load = vdrop, to provide a more stable OC
High Vdroop = reduced voltage under load, a safety feature to prevent voltage spikes from damaging the CPU

ie.
BIOS set 1.37v with high vdroop and drop almost into the 1.31 range under load.
With low vdroop enabled, it will overvolt to 1.42v under load.

vdroop may vary from board to board, in terms of quality of voltage regulators used.
this is where MSI voltage regulators are of the incapable type.

sifus...need opinion here. im using i7 2600k and Asus P8P67 Pro. i just wanna do mild oc to 4ghz.. should i just leave the rest setting to auto? or should i set the vcore manually to default vcore? noob here... smile.gif
*
adjust multiplier from 34X to 40X and reboot
i believe mobo will auto adjust voltage etc for u since 4GHz is not hard for SB.

2600K regardless on any mobo should be able to downclock down to 1.6GHz @ 16X
Advanced > CPU Config > Turbo multi set to 16X sth like that.

QUOTE(Indulgence @ Apr 28 2011, 07:02 PM)
ei guys, i got a question.. this seems quite odd but whenever i OC my 2600k HT on say for like 4.6ghz, whenever i run IBT or linX, i always get inconsistent gflops, ex:

58
52
48
48
48

and that is under maximum setting. i know it means unstable overclock, but i already pumped so much vcore! i already tried feeding it with 1.4v @ 4.6ghz to no avail.. still the same inconsistent gflops.. but, BUT, i passed blend mode on prime95 for 8 hours..

but when i tried disabling HT, i get consistent gflops (68, 68, 67, 68, 68), and it requires me less voltage to feed the core.. but the thing is, the main selling point of 2600k over the 2500k is the HT, right? i could care less though, since i only use my computer for gaming and surfing only.. no picture/video editing and any other tasks that requires threading.. i can turn it on when i need it anyways..

so, what could be the problem?

HT on = unstable gflops
HT off = stable gflops..
thanks guys.. hope you can help me on this one..
*
Did u play with other apps during LinX in the background?
Background processes that seem to only use a tiny bit of proc power can have a big impact on GFlops.
Other than that suspect ur OC is unstable. A good OC with nothing interfering with IBT or Linx will maintain consistent GFlops within one flop from minimum to maximum. btw, the latest version of LinX (provided in Post#1)on win7 SP1 should yield 100+ which is the real deal for SB.

Wow, what happened to p67 mobo from gigabyte? Are they now replaced with series of z68 mobos?
*
Giga will still produce P67 till end of this year before completely replaced by Z68. I believe other manufacturers will follow the trends too. Z68 is set to be released officially on May 11th but now u can get Z68 UD7 at C-Zone already for the same price.

hi guys, is cm hyper 212+ to noctua cooler a big jump? currently 4.8GHz running stress test temp is around 95c. Might wanna reach 5.0GHz or higher with a high end air cooler.
*
Noctua D14 is slightly better than Hyper212 by 2-3C.
But bigger margin when Noctua is fitted with 3 fans push pull.
Not possible to run 5GHz under air cooling in our hot environment, unless if u got a rare chip needing below 1.4v for that speed. Go for custom wc biggrin.gif

I believe u can get one premium set for as low as RM800 locally.
But this package looks quite hard for 5GHz as well, in fact it lost to top air coolers.
Actually the best cooler is this:

Overheat or low cpu pll volt or insufficient power supply could cause auto shutdown.

Depends on what wb+rad+fan+pump u use, bad choice will just worse or on par with air cooler. Idle temp can be equal or slightly better that's pretty normal due to ambient limitation.

Btw guys with MIVE stuck BCLK issue can get a replacement BIOS chip for FOC from Asus, as advised by Raja they r still investigating this problem.

1.464v hits 88C lol, not optimized yet.
I'm stressing my proc due to hot ambient atm.

I've got my P8Z68-V PRO tonight .. now, need to read and read and read .. first time trying to do OC .. total noob .. BTW, what is the idle temp. for i7/2600K? Looking at the BIOS page, mine is quite high, hovering at 60-65 degrees C .. ambient temp. is at aroun 29 degrees C. But this is on stock cooler, haven't put in the CM V6GT yet and haven't put into the case too.
*
idle temp for 2600K @ 3.4GHz on stock cooler should be about 40C only.
60-70C on load.

Just a noob want to ask sifus here:

1) is 4.7gh at 1.36 with 47-50 idle temp good enough or hve to lower down?

2) Will ocing the ram helps in stabilizing the cpu oc?

3) Will there be an increase in performance if oc the ram?

Thank u smile.gif
*
1) Looks normal at that range. But load temp is more important.
2) RAM OC has nothing to do with CPU OC stability.
3) For routine tasks u wont notice any significant difference ie between 1866 and 2133. Faster clock is meant for benchmark purpose only.

QUOTE(FiragaZ @ May 13 2011, 05:29 PM)
Simply tried 5GHz with 1.45v just now, not dare to run stress test, after 10minutes of google and winamp, my pc hang lol doh.gif .
*
Need more juice for sure. OC is useless without stability.

QUOTE(wiraone @ May 13 2011, 05:50 PM)
Finally, got down and putting everything in the case and installed Win7. The idle temp. as shown in AI Suite II is around 30 degrees idle (1648 MHz) and I ran SuperPI just to check and it goes as high as 50 degrees full load (4470MHz). Ah, this is with CM V6GT cooler.
*
Good job. I always use Realtemp to monitor core temps.

Audio has nothing to do with OC unless if it's PCIE based sc.
Should be something else.
Make sure that u install all the drivers come with cd as necessary or try reinstall a fresh windows. smile.gif
