Bash #196 – RRI, Sg Buloh

Preamble:
In 2010, the government announced that the RRI site would be given over to development. At present, the government is considering proposals and sooner rather than later, we will be losing 3300 acres of green space. I expect that the master planning will allow for green zones or corridors and development will be in stages. However, the rubber plantation as we know it will soon be only remembered in our history books.

And this is the impetus for having our first hash of the year here. Come and enjoy one of the best xc riding in the klang valley before it all changes.

Many thanks to the good folks of the RRI for giving us permission to set the hash here and at a very very special and discounted fee of RM250.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE HASH WILL START AT 8AM.

Ride briefing starts at 8:00am. We ride off at 8:15am.

Trail Description:
The Scenic is approx. 16km.
The Long is approx. 32km.

Safety Issues:
1. Single track under TNB Transmission Lines
The 3km long single track access under the TNB Transmission lines which is used to enter and exit the RRI from the start point is fun to ride and is sketchy and tricky in a few sections, which is why it is fun to ride. If you are not confident in your technical riding, please ride slow or even walk the downhill sections.

2. River single track.
This is a 700m long river single track being used at the end of the ride. It is fun to ride. Unfortunately, the single track closely follows the river. Falling into the river is not good. So please take extra care and walk when unsure. Young children must be supervised extra closely here.

3. Technical Downhill sections
There are three dh sections in the main hill of the RRI. They are super fun which means they are steep and challenging. Only attempt them if confident. Please walk if unsure about your ability.

What to bring:

Mosquitoe repellent is a must. The blood suckers only come at you when you stop. Don’t stop riding.
Sun block if you are sun phobic. The 3km stretch under the transmission lines is exposed.
3L of water if doing the long.
The usual bike tools, spare tubes, mini pump, extra chain links etc.
First aid.

New shops at Jalan Pju 1a/3k, Ara Damansara

GPS Coordinates –
Waypoint 1: Actual site - N3 07 12.2 E101 35 26.1
Waypoint 2: Navigation coordinates - N3 07 14.6 E101 35 29.7

Use Waypoint 2 when navigating as there is a new road that has been built that will not show up on your map. Once you reach Waypoint 2, drive another 100m on the new road and you will see shops on your right which is our start point.

1. Drive towards the Tropicana Golf and Country Club,
2. If coming from Bandar Utama side, find your way to Persiaran Tropicana.
3. When you go into the tunnel that goes under the NKVE, take the first left into Jalan Pju 1a/1. The Damansara Lagenda houses will be on your left.
4. Approximately 800m on this road on your right, you will see the hash start point at the new shops.
