panasonic thl42d25k .mkv help, sifu plz help me with my problem

i recently bought a panasonic thl42d25k led lcd tv
read through the manual and the divx part say can only play .avi and .divx but some other forumers said can play .mkv i tried it with a .mkv sample thru usb but the tv can't detect it plz help me |

I think only samsung HDTV can play mkv files, alternative way is to get a media player

if i convert it to divx hd would i lose quality???
