Star trek into darkness
Star Trek Into Darkness has a great story, with twists and surprises awaiting along the journey. It makes you think - who is the good guy and who is the bad guy? And sometimes the distinction can be blurry. Khan was a villain, then working together with Captain Kirk, and reverts back to a villain towards the second half of the movie.
Conspiracy is a dominant theme. Captain Kirk has to decide whether or not he should believe what had been said by Khan during his capture; The Admiral Marcus has a secret agenda of starting a space war. Khan, disguising as John Harrison, wants revenge and save his people.
Humor is sprinkled sparingly throughout the movie to make people not sleep. It is a welcomed adddition, as it is not overly cheesy.
Furthermore, it is much more than a futuristic outer space science fiction movie. It has a deep message to tell: The conflict of choice. For instance, on planet Nibiru, choosing to save Spock's life Vs sticking to the rules of not allowing the natives to see advanced civilization. And capturing Khan at Kronos Vs killing him using the photon torpedoes.
I really dig this. Most blockbusters lack this cerebral element that makes you think: What would you do in such a tight situation? (even after leaving the cinema)
Highlights
1. The jump off the cliff at planet Nibiru.
Despite shown in the trailers, seeing it again in the movie is breath-taking. The music goes mute as they jump down, making everyone to hold their breath and anticipate what's going to happen. Brilliant.
2.Khan negotiates with Spock for swapping starship crews
"I will walk over your cold corpses". Goosebumps.
It is highly entertaining, with plot twists and amazing acting from the cast. CG blends in nicely in this sci fi action thriller. It even indirectly asks questions to the audience relating to choices in life. With me scrambling for the Star Trek 2009 movie after I've exited the cinema, this movie had certainly impressed me in ways I didn't expect.
9.5/10

Best film of 2013 for me. I like that the trailer didn't reveal much, not showing all the goods and when you watch it at the movies, you get blown away. The action sequence were grand and spectacular. The story were engaging and nicely paced..I liked the plot twists. Cumberbatch was a brilliant villain and the stand out performer..definitely better than Nero (Bana) in the first film.
Like you, when i went home, i straight away went to rewatch the The Wrath of Khan and Star Trek (2009).
9/10 for me! Brilliant!
