QUOTE(sinoffire @ Sep 14 2013, 05:12 PM)
dun get me wrong. some of ur reviews are good. some of the movies u've review are those that interest me, and i've watched 'em before, and i share the same opinions of ur reviews. but i just cant fathom the fact that how many hours u spent on a daily basis watch movies?  shocking.gif  of cos u gotta really spend the time in order to come out wif those reviews.

nonetheless, i'll track all ur previous posts and see if i can find a gem or two in it and i'll go *ahem* and watch it.  laugh.gif

The answer to your question is a simple line, I don't have a life... laugh.gif

Happy hunting for my old reviews. Be warned though, I've been told I can be a little "long" winded and also I tend to use the term "brilliant" way to often in my older post... tongue.gif

Oh and happy... "ahemming" laugh.gif

Star Trek: The Next Generation - The Best of Both Worlds (1990)

laugh.gif

Supposedly, when Season 3 of Star Trek the Next Generation ended with a cliffhanger, many an American were unhappy.

So much so, that when Patrick Steward was driving down a highway during the summer of 1990, a station wagon drove up next to his car, winded down their window and shouted at him, "You've RUINED our summer!!!!" tongue.gif

This year, Paramount in an attempt to to squeeze out more money from the general public, had NOT ONLY re-released the whole of Star Trek The Next Generation Season 3 & 4, they also release a "Special Edition" bluray that has the last episode of Season 3 and the first episode of Season 4, with a supposed additional extended scene, and for the life of me, I cannot tell what is extended! tongue.gif

Viewing something that is 23 years old (and state of the art when it was first release) it is still good story telling. And with the upgraded special effects, a good view indeed.

Paramount is spending a pretty penny to update this series to Hi Def and it shows.

Even compared to the newer Star Trek Enterprise which is also released in bluray, the PQ for Star Trek and Next Generation is a tad... sharper!

For those who are not in the know, this is the episodes where the Borg, who is originally from the Delta Quadrant of space, has actually traveled to the Alpha Quadrant of space to assimilate the Federation!!

Very nail biting indeed!!!

I like it. The question you have to ask yourself now is, will you??

Lone Wolf and Cub: Sword of Vengeance (1972)
Lone Wolf and Cub: Baby Cart at the River Styx (1972)
Lone Wolf and Cub: Baby Cart to Hades (1972)
Lone Wolf and Cub: Baby Cart in Peril (1972)
Lone Wolf and Cub: Baby Cart in the Land of Demons (1973)
Lone Wolf and Cub: White Heaven in Hell (1974)

Now for something, REALLY different.

Director Kenji Misumi will always be know for this series.

A samurai turned ronin (a samurai without a master) wonders the country of Japan, helping the simple folks while pursuing his arch enemy, the Yagyu Clan!!

The hook? His absolutely cute and adorable young son, whom his pushes all over Japan in a wooden cart.

They do not talk to each other, but rather communicate with each other with knowing glances...

I have you know, I would have KILLED for a wooden cart like the one in the movies when I was a baby, way WAY cool.

Again, please note that this is a VERY violent series, limbs and heads go a flying.... Oh and blood a spluttering...

For movies that is 41 years old, the transfer is impressive...

They must have kept the masters in a pristine environment!!

So Undercover (2012)

With much "interest" in Miley Cyrus at this point...

In her own words, if you are an 11 - 24 year old girl, you would enjoy this, because apparently, the market segment can fully appreciate the term... "amazeballs"....

The Odd Of Life Of Timothy Green - Very good drama.

Switch (2013) - How to describe this movie, not very good.
Hotel Deluxe - Okay, funny.

The 601st Phone Call

Very cliche', you can guess the way the story will pan out from miles away. I don't even know the casting team. Even though it is cliche' but at the end of the day it is the narration from the beginning to the conclusion that matter most in any film. So on that regard, i think the director had done very well.

X-Men: First Class (2011)

James McAvoy & Michael Fassbender r brilliant as Charles Xavier & Erik Lensherr!!

Who ever would have thought that young Charles Xavier would have been should a CAD!!! laugh.gif

Storyline's good, Matthew Vaughn did a good job directing and Kevin Bacon (as Sebastian Shaw) had proven before that he can be an S.O.B. has once again proved he can be... an S.O.B.!! biggrin.gif

The younger stars who are Beast, Angel, Banshee & Darwin are fine.

PQ and AQ is GREAT!!

Again cannot wait until X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) and Bryan Singer is back!!! Yeah!!!

The Usual Suspects (1995)

How do you get your hands on an amazing script, a whole stable of great actors and also have a reasonable budget in 1995 for your directorial debut?

The answer is, you have to be Bryan Singer.

For the life of me, I don't know why I have only watch this movie NOW!!!

Everything is delivered!

There is absolutely, positively not wrong with this movie (well there are some goofs, but as far as story, acting and editing is concern), NOTHING. This movie is categorise as a mystery and boy is it ever!!!

Bryan Singer, is still showing alot of directors, how it is done, with this little gem!!

I cannot recommend this movie enough!!

Riddick.

Having never seen the first two films, this turned out pretty impressive, for the first two-thirds of the movie anyhow. The first half hour or so is just Riddick and the rough, alien terrain - and it's pretty great stuff. The visual palette looks arresting, and actually reminds me of the visual style of Alien3 (a very good thing). Brown hues all around. The pacing here is meticulously deliberate. It's one man against an alien nature. Face-offs against the inhabitants are executed magnificently - carefully paced and never rushed, a true survivalist story.

The second part of the arrival of the mercenaries. In a way this part reminds me even more of Alien3, with its bunch of low life criminals/bounty hunters. Not entirely sure if it's intentional, but the head honcho of the first group of bounty hunters (that spanish guy) is hilarious at times. Most of the characters are disposable cutboard cutouts but they do provide entertaining cannon fodder for the titular character.

The last and weakest part is where the full blown alien menace arrives... and disappointing it is no where near as intimidating as the one-on-one showdowns in the first segment of the movie. Simply a generic man vs. aliens action movie, the last 30 minutes.

Watch it for the mesmerizing first act.

Tremors (1990)

... This movie actually has MORE budget then The Usual Suspect!! biggrin.gif

Ron Underwood the director has actually done several movies I like Heart and Souls (1993) [One of my favorite Robert Downey Jr. movie], Mighty Joe Young (1998) and surprisingly, several TV Series I like, Boston Legal, Eli Stone, Reaper, No Ordinary Family, Necessary Roughness, Burn Notice, Castle etc, etc!!

Kevin Bacon (Valentine McKee) and Fred Ward (Earl Bassett) actually have good chemistry!! [The more modern term is Bromance]

I was actually surprise to see Michael Gross (the father in TV series, Family Ties) in this. His character Burt Gummer a red neck nuclear apocalypse believer.

This movie is tongue in cheek and is actually quite fun.

The perfect movie for a lazy Sunday afternoon if you have not watched it already!!

Terror Train (1980)

After Jamie Lee Curtis became a silver screen scream queen in Halloween (1978), many an offer came to her. The Fog (1980) & Prom Night (1980) comes to mind.

A lesser much know movie is this one.

The highlight of this movie... surprisingly isn't Jamie Lee Curtis, but.... wait for it... Mr. David Copperfield.

Guess what character he played. He played the role of a.... wait for it... Magician!! biggrin.gif

Pre Uni kid, all trap on a train after their finals... There are chick, booze, rock and roll or, and magic show!! laugh.gif

I remember watching this or RTM (that is right folks, before TV8, before NTV7, even before TV3, we ONLY had RTM) many MANY years back!!! They censored the heck out of it!!

Nothing else worth while to say except Jamie Lee Curtis is probably pretending that she never was involve with this movie... biggrin.gif

It's decent enough and not as bad as its reputation suggests, but it looks fabulous.

I beg to differ on the choice of the best animation movie in 2013 so far. Although I did enjoy The Croods, my vote would go to Monsters University (MU). I find that one can relate much better to MU although it's set in another universe. Just my 2 cents. smile.gif

I truly remember watching this in Australia in the cinema.

The only thing I appreciated from that is the concept that even dogs can get impregnated by the face hugger...

It was a disappointment for me.... sad.gif
