Ever wondered why Christmas is a more celebrated compared to Easter??

Yes! Well, this movie wonders the same!?!

It has it's pedigree, director Tim Hill (Alvin and the Chipmunks and a Sponge wo wears pants??), Russell Brand (Mr Katy Perry) plays E.B., Hugh Laurie plays his father and most surprisingly James Marsden plays... Fred O'Hare....

Out of all the above, I have NO idea why James Marsden is in this movie, playing, of ALL things, a BUM!!!!!

I understand he has comedic timing (He played the Prince in Enchanted) and he has actually starred in Broadway show (so he can sing and dance). But play a BUM?????? Surely, the role is more suited for Seann William Scott!!?!

Okay, E.B. (short for Easter Bunny, played by Russell Brand) runs away from his responsibility and Easter is around the corner, what is his father to do?? That's it, THAT'S the story.....



There are some highlight, and all I'll say about that is I WANT CANDY!!!!!!

If you want your kid to sit in front of the stupid box and be quiet for one and a half hours.... u won't go wrong with this movie

Win Win. Win indeed. Very good dramedy with the always dependable Giamatti and a great supporting cast. Quietly funny and always honest.

Hanna. Some bright spots but on the whole it was *yawn*. None of the ideas were fleshed out adequately. In the end it's just a half-baked could-have-been-special run-of-the-mill thriller.

Also watched the whole Harry Potter series up to movie 7 over the past month. Watching them in succession made me appreciate the entire series better, though Azkaban is still the best.. but damn, Half Blood Prince's photography looked ravishing. The last few movies still had plenty of flaws and none of them can stand on its own, which probably explains why I liked them more when viewed in succession.

Wow... people ACTUALLY miss me here...

Was meaning to go to Conan and Final Destination 5 and heard that the censorship board had gone overboard with them so... no.

The Pixar Story (2007)

I'm not sure if the moderator would allow me to talk about documentaries here, seeing how this is about Pixar, I thought it might be relevant.

I thought I know alot about Pixar from it's origins to the movie powerhouse it is today and boy was I wrong.

There were so many stuff I DIDN'T know about the company and it is a VERY good piece

If you like documentary and Pixar, give this a go...

The Island (2005)

This BOMBED at the box office and I had never watched this until recently, and surprisingly, I kinda like it!!

Say what you want about Ewan McGregor, he can sell sincerity, and you sympathized with his character.

Interestingly, the story reminds me of what John Brynes did in the comic The World of Krypton (many, MANY years ago, nevermind if you don't know it)

The question it poses, if we can clone people, should we clone people? (It is my personal opinion that we ask too many can we and should focus instead on should we)

The movie does draw it's own conclusion.

There is a HUGE leap of faith at the end and can understand why so many people didn't BUY it.

I bought it and thought that it was entertaining.

What surprises me about this piece is when the movie first came out, and bombed at the box office, the producers blamed Scarlett Johansson!!??

I wouldn't hold my breath to see her in anything done Shakespearean, and blaming her for the lack of ticket sales???? Weird....

Priest (2011)

What a waste of resource (to make) and time (to watch)

Based on a comic book (whoopy do, I don't think this movie did the comic industry any favors...)

Movie producers of the world, please understand Style over Substance doesn't work. PERIOD!

Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977)

It has been a long time since I last watched Star Wars (now know as Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope)

I had watched it in 1978, in the cinema (mono)

I watched it again in the cinema when it was remastered and re release, (1997) and subsequently got it on Dvd. (Just before Star Wars ! Phantom Menace [what a name])

Now it is re re release on Bluray

As a remaster work to HD, how does it stands. In a word, good. There are imperfections, and I feel, these imperfects only adds to the movie. You youngun have to understand that this was made 33 years ago!!

I have watched it twice yesterday, once on the new spanking DTSHD MA, and Star Wars never sounded better! The second time with George Lucas and Carrie Fisher's commentary and it is interesting hearing the director and lead actress's comments on the movie.

Will have to watch it one more time with commentary from Harrison Ford and Mark Hamil and other technical people.

It is interesting to learn that the Obi Wan Kenobi's character wasn't suppose to die at the end, and because of rewrites (and the fact the George Lucas cannot figure out what to do with him in the V ad VI exept to stand around!!), his character was killed off much to the disappointment to Sir Alec Guinness. George Lucas manage to calm him down by reassuring him that his role would reoccur in V and VI (abate spiritually!! )!!

Also interesting to learn that Harrison Ford had a 13 year old som when he made Star Wars IV Mark Hamil was 20+ (playing 19) and Carrie Fisher was actually 19>

On set, there was actually competition between Mark Hamil and Harrison Ford (Alpha Male syndrome??)

Would I recommend this??

Undoubtedly, YES!!

Am now watching Empire for the second time. Will post as soon as I finished.

Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980)

This is a "strange" movie.

Firstly, it is the 1 of 2 Star Wars movie not directed by George Lucas (Irvin Kershner directed this, the other movie being Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi)

And it is a movie without a beginning and an end!!?

Visually, as a remaster work it is stunning. Much MUCH better then Star Wars IV: A New Hope.

Could be due to the fact that George Lucas had gotten DOUBLE the budget for this compared to Star Wars IV: A New Hope (back then USD 26 Mil!?)

Apparently, when it first came out, it was not well accepted, but personally, I thought it exceeded Star Wars IV: A New Hope in every way!!

Three points of interest about this movie

1) Most of the action sequence happened at the beginning of the movie

2) The irony of the fastest ship in the galaxy (Millennium Falcon) spent most of the movie being NOT the fastest ship in the galaxy

3) When they shot the end of the movie, Dark Vader character weren't given the actually dialogue and the director actually gave him direction on how his body language/movements should be. This was done so that the now classic reveal would not leak out before the movie premiered. It worked.



I still think the Star Wars IV, V and VI run rings around the prequels.

But then again, that is My Two Sen!!

My Kingdom really sucks. Waste my RM11. The audio should be in Mandarin. But it was in Cantonese. Sound very funny when Barbie Hsu, Wu Chun and Han Geng's voice dubbed to Cantonese.

Page Eight (2011)

a very light and entertaining (well, i maybe bias on the entertaining part because i always like Bill Nighy's movies) intelligence movie. i don't think even a single pistol shot was fired during the duration of the movie. play out some normal intelligence issue i.e. trust, betrayal, corruption etc but entertaining enough for me not to regret spending 1.5 hours watching this. but for recommendation, i'd probably will only recommend it if you are fans of Bill Nighly, or maybe if you want to see Rachel Weisz after such a long time (for me la anyway). if not then maybe the movie is not for you

6/10 - an average light intelligence movie, Bill Nighy as the hero bring the score 1 up to 6

3:10 To Yuma (2007)

This gets better each time I watch it. Love it. Crowe's Ben Wade is one complex and dynamic character whose relationship with Bale's Dan Evans absolutely makes the film and culminates with the brilliant ending which is as explosive as it is emotional.

Never seen the original too. It can't be this bloody good can it?

Fright Night (2011)

I luv camp!!

I Also love the original Fright Night.

What you might NOT know is that the original had a sequel (even I didn't know that until much MUCH later and did managed to see it on Astro, and it SUCKED major... No pun intended)

The Good

Colin Farrell, never looked better (ironically, playing a vampire...). Very feral (again, not pun intended). Have not seen him for quite sometime! Not, drinking, abusing drugs and womanizing (allegedly) agrees with him. Maybe Charlie Sheen can take a page from Colin Farrell play book... But I digress...

Anton Yelchin. Ah, the little urchin has grown up. From the very VERY good Heart of Atlantis opposite Sir Anthony Hopkins, to playing Chekov in Star Trek. He is proving that he can... well, act!

Imogen Poots... Pretty! Nuff said!!

David Tennant, While watching this movie, I kept going, where have I seen him before, and for the life of me, I couldn't remember. Turned out he was Barty Crouch in one of the Harry Potter! This updated version of Vincent, works!!

The premised that this movie happens in Las Vegas. Clever

Why would you put Toni Collette as Mom and give her SO little to do??

They were some censorship (mainly swear words) and have to add, was kinda acceptable (eg. their did NOT butcher this movie)

Edits and pacing people, Edits and pacing.

The took the character's of the original of the movie, and retool/updated them for 2011, THE STORY basically REMAINS THE SAME!!!

In short, there are sparks of brilliance. Not enough to make movie stand out...

The Three Musketeers (2011, Constantin Film Production)

I have seen so many iteration of this, The Three Musketeers (1973, Alexander Salkind), The Three Musketeers (1993, Walt Disney Pictures), The Musketeer (2001, Universal) and I have even seen Mickey, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers (2004, DisneyToon Studios)!!!

How does this movie stand up??

Some pleasant surprises.

I've read as little as possible about this production and was most surprise to see Milla Jovovich cast as MiLady and what an action oriented MiLady she is!!

1st Act was good

2nd act deteriorated

3rd... *Sigh*

The sets, location and costumes for this movie is breathtaking!

Here is what's not so good about the movie

I thought Orlando Bloom played Aramis and it turned out that he played Duke of Buckingham... He REALLY REALLY hammed up the character and seriously, I thought he was badly cast!! it is my personal opinion that if he had played Aramis and Luke Evans had played Duke of Buckingham, it would have worked out better...

Gosh, who would have thought that Masters and Commanders would have made an appearance, IN THE SKY!!!

In the age of Social Network, Kick Ass and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World nerd = cool and have to add Logan Lerman with THAT HAIR as D'Artagnan!!!? Really, Come on!!.... Too cocky TOO AMERICAN SPOILT BRAT

Christoph Waltz who shone in Inglorious Basterd is so... meh here

Story people, you have to get the story right!

And lastly, the sound track to this movie is atrocious....

I have to give credit where credit is due the sets, location and costumes for this movie is really REALLY breathtaking!

Managed to watch 2 (read that TWO) horror movie yesterday and they are... I'm getting ahead of myself

Paranormal Activity 3 (2011)

After the first two, I thought this subject matter would be at best slightly above average!

Boy am I wrong.

First thing first, for viewers of the previous movie, Paranormal Activity is the last movie according to time line, the second prequel to the first and this is prequel to the second!!

This movie is made with USD 5,000,000, and it kept me entertained throughout the movie compared to USD 300,000,000 movies (I'm looking at you Transformer 3!!!!)

Storyline isn't earth shattering, it is how they present the material (camera work) that is interesting (I shouldn't elaborate, don't want to spoil you fun)

The director was able to slowly built up the suspense to the end

Some would say that all the paranormal activity movie looks like one another, and I say it is a good thing, because the story keeps expending.

Sequels (Prequels) do not usually work because the story does not expend, this one does, and shooting the story in reverse actually adds to the charm

Ladies and gentlemen this is a good horror movie.

Fans of 1 & 2 will not be let down

Horror fans, if you had not had a chance to check out 1 & 2, go check them out and then check this out

Don't Be Afraid of the Dark (2010)

Two horror movies in ONE day.

I cannot remember when was the last time I did that!!

Admittedly, the above was done at 11am in the morning and this at 9pm at nite.

I had the privilege of watching both these movie in an ALMOST empty cinema, which added to the creepiness!!

First of all, this movie is produced by Guillermo del Toro, which means one thing. Spectacular sets. Breathtaking, really.

Fans of Guillermo del Toro know that he has a passion for dark fairy tales (down to the toad stool circle and children beware, anyone??), and I DON'T mean the Disney kind. All you have to do is look at his past works and you know what I mean (Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy, Blade 2 etc)

Speaking of Hellboy, one of the bad guys in Hellboy is the agonist here!! I do not want to elaborate so that I do not spoil it for you!

For the life of me, while watching this I kept saying I've seen this. I've seen this on TV (many, MANY years back) and true enough this is a remake of the 1973 TV movie!!

I've been accuse of being to kind to movie when I preview them and I promise you, you'll probably NOT see a finer horror movie, in 2011

Guys, do not let your girlfriend convince you to watch What's Your Number with her! It's an absolute chick flick, and a really boring one.

Crazy, Stupid, Love

This is probably one of the best romantic comedy with an ensemble cast that I have seen in a long while. Forget shit like Valentine's Day and He's Not Just Into You or whatever it is called. This is the real deal.

The film tiptoes between the fine line of touching honesty and over-the-top slapstick with aplomb and there are several moments in the film that you could see from a mile away but still never fails to deliver many laugh-out-loud moments. There will be moments where you will wonder why certain secondary characters are in the film but be patient with the film and you will be rewarded.

The chemistry between the cast is also as good as it gets and special praise for Gosling for his versatility. Who would believe that the man could go from Blue Valentine to Drive to Crazy, Stupid, Love and come out of all three films like he has played each of these roles for years.

Very good. 4.5/5

For me to be able to talk about Tin Tin, I have to begin with Peanuts!!?!

Why, I practically grew up with Snoopy, and when I graduated from Snoopy, the material I gravitated to was... Snowy from Tin Tin

I read the comic and I think some TV special but could never afford the actually comics apart from what was available in the local library (which were never complete)

Enough about that, what about the movie?

Visually STUNNING (you can see the PEACH FUZZ on Tin Tin's face in the close ups!!!!). The camera angles were fantastic, always capturing the the dynamism of the scenes and there is NO mistaking the visual of the comic and the movie. In short, they successfully flesh the characters out of the comic. I do have 1 complain about the visual, they still haven't crack the lifeless eyes 50 % of the time... Nitpicking I know

Story wise again very loyal to the source material. Most people would have taken the characters and modernized everything else closer to our time if not into the future. Keeping it in the time frame between WWI and WWII is PERFECT (kudos to Steven and Peter). Otherwise, Tin Tin would have been an emo, makeup wearing, with body piercing/tattoo and is constantly on his mobile gadgets with an attitude teenager!! (No offense to the teenagers reading this!! )

One other point I would like to make, Snowy IS THE MAIN character of the show!! In fact, I would like to start petition for Mr Steven Spielberg and Mr Peter Jackson to name the future movies (there is definitely going to be many MANY sequels) The Adventure of Snowy, featuring Tin Tin and the blah blah blah!! Any one else WITH ME??!!

This movie has everything! Humor, action and suspense! A two hours well spent!!

Would I recommend this! HECK YA!!

Immortals (2011)

Of all the pointless, needless, total waste of money, Immortals SURE takes the cake!!!

Henry Cavill is a BRUTE, so his Theseus is NOT likeable. (I FEAR for Men Of Steel....)

There is NOT a single character here that is likeable!

Every single character (men and gods) in this movie, can see a freight train coming towards them and EVERY SINGLE DECISION MAKER doesn't want to do ANYTHING about it. NOBODY'S MOTIVATION MAKES SENSE!!!

Eiko Ishioka (Costume designer) should be SEVERELY punished. Her designs are so pointless. Obviously she is inspired by western Opera, and she wanted to give the characters (especially the Gods) designs a sense of drama. Why do the gods wear SUCH POINTLESS HEAD GEAR!!!! They ALL look like they are models in a bad Fashion Week show (tries too very the hard)!! They also look like they have Madonna's song, Vogue playing in their head, so that's what they did most of the movie, strike a pose!!!!!

USD 75,000,000 DOWN THE DRAIN!!!

If you have money for two movies, spend one on watching The Adventure of Tin Tin and the other on The Adventure of Tin Tin in 3D

The less said about this movie, the better.

Halloween came LATE this year.

Be afraid kiddies, BE VERY AFRAID!!!!

watched this couple days back on HBO@astro...

what a pleasant surprise!! turns out to be a pretty good horror thriller with unique storyline...plus great acting by Liam Neeson...

the story is the type that makes you keep guessing until the end--did he/she or didn't he/she???

highly recommended!!

Just seen 50/50. In my opinion, it's the best and most original cancer movie of all time.

50/50 shows how Seth Rogen can be from super horrible to super Awesome. Its a must watch for a very serious subject, being made into a comedy. I even cried in this. haha
