Guys our N8 should be able to play any 720p MKV files right? Last night copy Shrek 3 to phone and try play but i can only manage to heard the Audio not the Video.. hmm.gif

The file around 500Mb size, Res 1280 x 544. or do i miss any restriction format on it? hmm.gif

It depends on the Video codec. I haven't been testing it out, but not all codecs are recognized. In the video player, press Details and see what is the format?

Yeah wonder the same things. If all codecs supported, then N8 will be Superior HD Media Phone laugh.gif
btw, Format: Video/X-HX-AVC1 hmm.gif

Yeah, seems like the AVC1 codec is not supported. Which is sad since almost all fansubs use that format tongue.gif

You'll have to convert the video to divx/xvid. I'd recommend using the free version of "Any Video Converter".

Yeah, I have tried my N8 with a 16GB thumb drive attached and playing a movie directly through USB to my TV through the HDMI cable smile.gif

That's the downside. I guess most of my MKV collections using the same codec. I wish have time for re-encode the video back.. doh.gif

You can reencode in batch. When 1 episode finish, you watch it on your N8 while the rest continue to be encoded.

Have heard somewhere that the problem probably related to the fact that one of the movie is encoded with the CABAC algorithm where reference frames are set to 5 or higher. And another one which is working with CABAC off or ref. frames set to 4 or less.

To sum up the restrictions are as follows:

- Scale size <= 720p

- CABAC reference frames <= 4 or CABAC off

- File size < 4GB (also restricted to FAT32 mass memory of our phone)

- Framerate <= 30 fps (according to spec.)

Funny thing is that the AVC1 codec is just another name for the H.264 which the phone supports. In fact, when you record video using the N8, that is the format used.

Will check out the CABAC thingy and see if there is any way to change it without reencoding the video.

Question : Do you carry all the cables with you wherever you go? I usually don't but sometimes it's sooo tempting to show off the USB-on-the-go and the HDMI output...
