I believe most of them in the lab right now are differential-drive bots. iCreate Turtlebot, Khepera, ePuck etc. We're not really building a brand new bot, we buy them, assemble it, a few tweaks here and there and then develop the bot based on our needs.

No unfortunately it's not but it is related to graph traversal problems and I believe it can be implemented for mapping.

You're right. It's for gas leak detection but more importantly, to find the source(location) of the leak. The lab downstairs are developing their e-nose sensors and I'm looking forward to use it on the bot when they're done.
Things are kind of messy right now, we're just using whatever that are available for use.
