One FYP student came to the lab today. He's staying in Kg. Wai, classes in Pauh and if he's not changing his mind, lab work in Jejawi. Tak ada transport(except the buses), tak ada lesen motor.
Kesian weh. Is this normal for UniMAP students?

biasa la tu but fyp students should have stayed in kolej kediaman tunku abdul rahman, pauh

That's what i thought too, but I asked him and he said Kg. Wai. Tak kan aku kena tipu kot. Malasnya nak handle budak ni kalau dia tipu. sweat.gif
Oh well, let's see if he can come and do his work every Friday.

Fuhhhh... Like this how to do FYP?  shocking.gif
*
Well, if he has the passion for it, no doubt it will be done.

Just an advice to those who are going to choose their FYP/supervisor in the future, if you don't have any interest in any of the labs, just choose something that's going to be easy for you to do. Ask your seniors about the lab(location, labmates, professors etc). Don't burden yourself. Don't burden others. Don't go for the 'I just randomly choose lel' attitude.

Still learning bits and pieces about mobile robotics. Came here from an advance algorithm lab, looking to implement my FYP on robots but sometimes progress are soooo slow, I don't even feel like going. laugh.gif

CEASTech. Not really jaga la, but I'm usually there doing whatever.

Taman Muhibah, Jejawi. Mechatronic I think.

What is the purpose of the robot that you are going to build? Is it a Masters or Ph.D research topic? Can I know who is your supervisor?
*
The end product should be for gas localisation and mapping. I'm doing MSc for now but others in the group (mobile bots) are doing it for their phd.

Dr. Ammar Zakaria. A cool guy cool2.gif

Is that a new research group/center/institute in UniMAP? Never heard of this when I left.

It is under the admin of which School? Mecha? hmm.gif
*
Sorry, I really don't know if it's new. Didn't graduate from unimap. Should be mecha. blush.gif

Didn't know you did not graduate from UniMAP. So where did you do your undergrad?
*
Nagoya University, Japan. Need a change of scenery after 4 years over there and I thought hey, why not take a breather in Perlis for a while? laugh.gif

But I do want to finish this as fast as I can.

QUOTE(Critical_Fallacy @ Sep 29 2014, 06:16 PM)
What type of mobile robot used in the lab? Front-wheel steering or Differential-drive steering? sweat.gif
*
I believe most of them in the lab right now are differential-drive bots. iCreate Turtlebot, Khepera, ePuck etc. We're not really building a brand new bot, we buy them, assemble it, a few tweaks here and there and then develop the bot based on our needs.

QUOTE(Critical_Fallacy @ Sep 29 2014, 06:16 PM)
Was your FYP about the advanced algorithm for motion planning and trajectory generation? huh.gif
*
No unfortunately it's not but it is related to graph traversal problems and I believe it can be implemented for mapping. hmm.gif

QUOTE(Critical_Fallacy @ Sep 29 2014, 06:16 PM)
Sounds like it's for gas leak detection. unsure.gif
*
You're right. It's for gas leak detection but more importantly, to find the source(location) of the leak. The lab downstairs are developing their e-nose sensors and I'm looking forward to use it on the bot when they're done.

Things are kind of messy right now, we're just using whatever that are available for use. laugh.gif

I believe you can modify the algorithm to incorporate the Artificial Potential Field approach for the gas sampling strategy. This approach is effective in early leakage detection where the potential is represented by the gas concentration level. After collecting a few positive samples, the potential field map can be generated and updated recursively as new samples are collected. This will drive the mobile robot to move towards locations of high mean concentration, high concentration variance, or areas for which the uncertainty about the gas diffusion model is still relatively large. icon_idea.gif

Hey, thanks for the idea. I believe I've read something like this in a journal a few months back. Going to try it after I get my hands on some gas sensors.

Hahaha I know but I have my own personal reasons and f*** the Japs. laugh.gif Techs? Yeah sure, they're more advanced but based on my plan and what I'm doing right now, all I need is a computer, a bot with decent odometry and gas sensors. laugh.gif
Have my eyes on Europe for my PhD tho blush.gif

Dear all,

I have a Research Engineer position open in my group (see the scope of work below), we are looking for a well-qualified student with B.Eng.

The scope of work is as follows (no prior knowledge is required, since we will train on all aspects; however any related experience on materials is preferred):

• Develop solid electrolytes for Li-air battery.
• Capable of undertaking synthesis and characterization of materials.
• Capable of performing conductivity/resistivity measurements at various conditions (temperature, humidity etc.,).
• Should have proven hands-on experimentation capability.
• Willing to work in a group environment.
• In addition to the job prescribed to the candidate, he/she may undertake a PhD program (we encourage this strongly).

Any interested party, feel free to contact me for more info. Otherwise, kindly visit the group website: http://serve.me.nus.edu.sg/energy/AESL/AESL.htm.

Thank you.
