Hi, Josh. Glad to know that you manage to secure a place in UniMAP. I could not advice much on Polymer Engineering, as I was not from this programme. Maybe ghodul or Master IvanWong1989 could provide you with some insights...

Yes, Perlis can be considered an ulu place with minimum entertainment. Although this is so, it is not at entirely a bad thing. Less distraction means you will get more time for yourself, for your studies, assignments and stuffs. However, if you and your group of buddies yearn for adventure, you guys could always head north to Thailand or head down south for Penang or Langkawi.

Based on my experience, studying in UniMAP is like being in a countryside. There are paddy fields everywhere you go. Life over there moves at a slow pace. If you are fed-up with the hectic lifestyle like that in KL, then Perlis is the ideal place for you to escape the heat and indulge in a whole new chapter of relaxation.

Good for you! Hope you will have a fruitful journey in UniMAP.

What type of facility do you mean? If you are referring to laboratory facilities, not to worry! School of Materials Engineering has everything you need in the labs.

But for sport facilities, I would say it is rather poor...cuz the main campus in Pauh is still under construction. So if you would wanna have some fun and games during the weekends, you would either have to travel to Kubang Gajah (badminton, tennis, ping pong) or Stadium Utama (swimming, badminton, tennis, etc).

Lecturers over there are not too bad. For the School of Materials Engineering, most (more than half) lecturers graduated from USM with either a Master's degree or PhD. So not to worry!

Food... doh.gif That's all I could say. If you are Chinese, you would need to go to town for Chinese food. But the Malay stalls in the hostels are not bad...that is if you could handle the spice. whistling.gif

The people around Perlis is friendly. So far, there isn't any case in which students get into trouble with the people and stuffs. Again, if you are Chinese, the main dialect over there is Hokkien, followed by Mandarin. Very few people understand other dialects. So if your spoken Mandarin/Hokkien is not ok, take these few months to polish it up! icon_rolleyes.gif

Lecture in Malay or English?hopefully is English smile.gif because i study chemistry and physics in English

then food should not be a problem...i was a National Service trainee batch 2010...quite familiar with Malay food thumbup.gif

ya...people there are friendly...they answer all my question i posted in facebook...thankz guyz rclxms.gif

language should not be a problem as well because i'm a Hokkien...hahahaha

how about hostel?i know is pre-arranged by the officer over there...but can choose the roomate...true?

seem like there are more chinese there but this is not true right?

Hi Josh92,

Congrats, first of all, on your UPU result. The journey of being independent is just a few months away.

Polymer Engineering is a good course. I mean it will equip you with knowledge on polymer material properties, and also methods to synthesise polymers with the required properties. With that apprehension, you could be on your way to synthesising new polymeric materials.

Also, this field is really coming up in recent years, which brought the emergence of conjugated polymers and organic electronics. Just to get your interest started, Nobel Prize winners in Chemistry comes a lot from new material synthesis. How's that?  rclxms.gif

Yup, UniMAP does have collaboration with oversea universities, like UNSW, Chulalongkorn University and some universities in China and Indonesia.

If you need more info, you can approach your School's admin office.
