Hi, offering some help here, although my info might be a little outdated since I graduated last year.

Good news for chinese students, chinese food especially zap fan is darn cheap here, you need to know the right place though.

Nobody replying my question  rclxub.gif

To whom should i seek to choose our own roommates?
*
I'm not sure about microe, but in my case (biomedic engi), our course and even syllabus is a little different from UM's (comparing with a friend studying there). I can't explain precisely, but the notes he forwarded me was partially useless at that time because our syllabus was totally different although the subject was the same.
For diploma holder, they can exempt some of the subjects which we can't, yet we can skip 1st year and they can't...

QUOTE(ghodul @ Jul 19 2011, 01:46 PM)
Just wondering, dip holder straight go to 2nd year right? How if I wanna to do 4 years full, can or not? and can I bring my bike there?
*
Dip student automatically jump to 2nd year, but still will join the orientation and 7 pillars* with your intake.

It depends if you wanna start from 1st year, I think is possible, try ask your lecturer or RPS*. In my case, i think is kinda waste of time if you wanna start from 1st year bcoz the 1st year subjects are very fundamental. Anyway, even though you can jump to 2nd year, you can't exempt all first years subjects (transfer credit from your dip transkrip). The decision of exempt the subject or not depends on your dean and programme chairman. I had to take 2 first year subjects in final year bcoz of this, and quite a pain in d a$$ la.

* You will know what i'm talking about once you get in.

you're right bro. But if I'm really wanna go, I might need the first year notes to look out a little bit bout it. a little bit research and revision might help me....

I worked for 1 year+++ then only further Degree, still boleh survive. It's all about your attitude really icon_rolleyes.gif

I'm also studying the same thing when I was in polytechnic. Electronics Eng Maj in Computer...
The part that I'm scared alot, my attitude. Imma kinda clumsy. But, will look forward thru it....
*
Some of my lecturers prefer the dip/poli students more bcoz we are more mature and 'steady'... smile.gif

QUOTE(IvanWong1989 @ Jul 19 2011, 02:56 PM)
haha.... my course gt alot diploma that skipped first year....

honestly... it will be quite packed loh frm what i see of them..

cz some subjects wajib..... also u hav to do ur 7 pillars(uni compulsory activity),

haha... if u think u can handle the ''packness'' ok ah.. lolx
haha so course wouldn't be an issue... now is u decide lor... want cont degree? or wait ur company sponsor u next year.....
*
Yea some course's dip student is very busy, bcoz they have more core subjects to carry than we do.
7 pillars is nothing in term of 'packing' up the schedule, it's just a redundant pain in d a$$ activities that we kenot skip. But wajib course, YES!! That's the subjects that drag my pointer shakehead.gif

if uni activities, there's few 'compulsory' to join; biggest non-academic activities would be movie/drama sharing and online gaming biggrin.gif

co-cu yes, 1 credit hour

n his reply made me speechless..

"kami takut u orang masak sambil main dgn api, pastu bakarkan hostel ni.."

a round of applause to d mr pegawai.. rclxms.gif  rclxms.gif  rclxms.gif

Cooking - Actually you can 'secretly' bring in the cooking utensil eg rice cooker to cook, if you dare enough to break the rule like us. My housemates cooked spagetti, keropok lekor, a whole course of dinner during puasa with rice cooker thumbup.gif But u must remember to hide it during spotcheck, especially those staying in wang ulu bcoz I heard their spotcheck very very strict.

My previous neighbor even brought in the whole set of dapur: gas stove, gas tong, wok etc...

QUOTE(jimmytan912 @ Jul 20 2011, 12:39 AM)
Actually why can't drive our own for first year student? Just curious.. Haha
*
Car for first years - Not really sure what is the main reason that first years are not allowed to bring in vehicles. If talking about accident, the senior years are involved too, so that cannot count. Anyway, u can borrow your senior's name to apply sticker for your car/motor, if your senior is agree with it.

QUOTE(bb100 @ Jul 20 2011, 12:34 PM)
Some students are hackers. I do not know the exact number of them, but there are. So for all UniMAP hostel internet users out there, be very careful!
*
Internet security - I agree with the hacker thing. A friend successfully hacked in unimap system and looked through our results shocking.gif He didn't cause us any harm lah, he pointed out bcoz the system's security is very weak, not hard to hack in. So, just careful. So far no problem on my side yet...

Please be reminded that you have to 'share' public transportation to Perlis with UiTM, UUM and politeknik students too, so make sure you purchase the bus and train tickets earlier, especially those from Pantai Timur...

WELCOME to Unimap, hope u all enjoy the nature n ALOT of activities can be done  here brows.gif  brows.gif

for those first timer taking wajib courses, it is better taking those wajib course wif ur frens or coursemate or ppl tht u'll always interact(mostly ur coursemate).. so it is easier for u n your group members to complete the task given by the lecturer since most of wajib courses( i think all of wajib courses)  will be given task. one of the ways is asking soft copy of the kerja kursus done by ur senior for ur references not to copy although plagarism spread widely when come to date pass up all the task

guidance taking wajib courses...
easy wajib courses: BM, BI(foundation), Titas, ethnic relationship, BI(university---> ds one depending on ur english level, if u gud at it then it wont be a prob for u whistling.gif )
hard wajib courses: Keusahawanan, thinking skill(i cannot brain this subject shakehead.gif )....

*for those who got band 4 n above in MUET test u will not need to take BI(foundation) but u still need to take option courses (2 credit courses) Etc bi(foundation), japaneese, german, mandarin...
*
BM easy!? I don't think so! hate it the most! vmad.gif
For me the easiest one is TITAS since the spot questions all kena!! rclxm9.gif And the only wajib i got A. Others were like A- and less mad.gif

Wow, what surprises me is that, since the place is not fully ready for accommodation, why are there still students staying there? Not all will own a transport, especially those who come from afar.  rclxub.gif

Is the place that you are staying situated near to your campus?
*
Worst part is, since the whole place (all of those hostels) cannot accommodate so many students, why there's more and more intakes every year!? sleep.gif Pity the students who stay at the nonsense hostels like the shoplots

That's nice to hear you enjoy the stay :)Most of the stories I heard are sour ones, about the rooms don't have doors but curtains instead etc.

QUOTE(exquisite_markas @ Jan 9 2014, 12:20 PM)
Fixed.  laugh.gif

But I really count myself lucky. 4 years in UniMAP only changed hostel once, which is from Wang Ulu to Tmn Semarak. Shifting hostel is not easy man.  shakehead.gif

Lucky me more! I stayed at Kg. Wai 3 years straight (diploma, skipped first year yada yada) icon_rolleyes.gif

I got KKA, dont know good or bad.
Oh yeah, I think we can't choose housemate but we are allowed to choose roommate.
*
I heard my friends said the room there is spacious and very comfy (and NEW), so no worries. But, it's actually in the middle of nowhere, so I'm not sure if they arrange buses to Kangar or Changlun or Jitra (Kangar I think sure got lah, but other places i not sure)

QUOTE(exquisite_markas @ Aug 13 2014, 07:09 PM)
KKA is at Kg Wai. It's the first hostel built in UniMAP (then KUKUM). And it's those terrace house type.
*
According to Wiki, KKA is in Pauh
Didn't know KKA was 'shifted' to Pauh lol... nearly had a joke on myself
KKA used to be at Taman Aman, Bintong/Kangar area, now I think they reserve for international students.

Last time KKB,C,D,E were in Kg. Wai, but no more... unsure.gif 往事只能回味啊
