i like going to the cinema from time to time but one thing I can't understand... why must they put on the audio volume so blardi loud till it hurt the ears. majority of cinema goers suffer from hearing impairment?

Home definately, environment makes the biggest difference when watching a movie, kids crying ruins the entire experience, this will prob be reversed if you have your own kids :-P

Some other pros and cons :
Cinema : latest movies / Home : have to wait BD release
Cinema : big screen but the screen not clear sometimes, like the film got scratched or something, irritating 3 languages subtitles Home : BD very clear with 1080p tv, selectable subtitles.

QUOTE(wackojacko @ Jan 4 2011, 11:46 AM) Home definately, environment makes the biggest difference when watching a movie, kids crying ruins the entire experience, this will prob be reversed if you have your own kids :-P Have not been to our local cinemas for quite a long while ago. Not trying to brag, my audio system is better than cinema even the previous system that I had at home. HM complained about poor AQ of QoS when we watched in cinema and also the PQ since we watched CR BD at home the day before to 'refresh'. And that was the last time we went to cinema.

No doubt Home Theater is getting better by the day. I prefer home theater too simply because of reasons such as no censorships, control every aspect of the movie viewings, and ultimately we still own the show after that.
But for those who has watch the great Italian movie Cinema Paradiso would have realised that going to Cinema is more than just the movie. its the overall experience of the whole thing, buying ticket, food before that, snacks, the chair, and the whole ambiance of Lights-out, sit back, the cinema went silent before the previews etc..
Cinema is still better, especially for our kids. Oh.. and they censor the part not meant for kids too ! Good for kids, bad for us ... ahem.

Last movie in the cinema was Toy Story3 in GSC cinema. The PQ sucky! Not as clear as at home 40"! And yes, why la these cinema operator thinks most of its customer have hearing impairment!

The blurry PQ is what make me feels most dissatisfied when watching at cinema. And movie that have been released 2/3 weeks totally not worth to watch, with all the amount of scratching at the film..
But since new movie only releaer in cinema 1st, so no choice still have to go..

for me i prefer watching at home.
cinema: pro - big screen, LOUD, latest film available, the atmosphere of outing with friends/family con - NOISY KIDS/MOVIEGOERS (crying, wailing, handphone, talking, telling the WHOLE plot, describing every scene to partner), public area so cleanliness of seats/floor, inconsiderate people eating smelly food, trying to get tickets, sometimes the film quality sucks, cannot pause to go to loo hehe
home: pro - can pause/repeat etc, can control loudness, can sit where i like, clean, can eat anything i want, no need to queue for tickets, look for car park or spend more cos you are sure to spend extra for dinner/lunch or shopping hehe con - no latest movie, blu-ray expensive/download takes time, smaller screen but quality may be better (if hd)

Yeah, the hardest part about watching at home is waiting for the BD to be released!
Otherwise, the sound and picture quality at home can be better (plus the other pros already mentioned above)

Home theatre for sure. Since 1995 only watched King Kong, Quantum of Solace and Exorcist at cinema. Not because of free tickets given, I would not be watching them at cinema.
No doubt, over these years, cinema improves a lot but nothing compare to HT, especially decidated HT.

at home i get more comfy seats, a 92" screen, bluray quality plus i can watch movie in my underwear, sip on my single malt and pause the movie anytime i need to take a shit... oh... and if the movie sucks at least i dont have to curse that i wasted $$$ on a movie ticket... but having said all this... there is a romance about queuing up and buying tickets and popcorn at the cinema... they wifey always complains why i never bring her out to watch a movie (feels more like a date to some people) This post has been edited by yonggoh: Jan 8 2011, 01:09 PM

I prefer the cinema screen size but home environment. Perfect scenario is if I'm the owner of the cinema with my preferred choice of equipment and only invited guest. Really need a huge house to get the same cinema size. Hmm ... Need to earn more money so that can have a room as big as a cinema!

I go to cinemas only for bonding with my boys. They go for Harry Potter, Narnia, cartoons ..... Occasional I enjoy the movie too, but most time I just grin and bear it.

QUOTE(xsi @ Jan 12 2011, 09:17 AM) since u guys are expert..which cinema has the best sound system? The only one that I remember and impressed by is the Singapore Imax Cinema cum Planetarium in Jurong. It has multiple speaker set up with great sound separation. It was so impressive that I always went for the show regardless of whats on it, and everytime I went down last time. Modern day cinema has above average speakers system no doubt. Few can be pleasant to the ear though. TOo bad I no longer in a position to compare various cinema system now. Spent too little time in local cinema as compared to last time. I did sampled the system from local (before THX), Singapore only THX cinema in late 80's (somewhere at Orchard Road), Dublin, London, notably the Empire cinema, which was outstanding.
