Egypt is a back-to-back African Cups champion. Nearly beaten Brazil 4-3 and defeated Italy 1-0 in the Confederations Cup.
France in Italy were no surprises...they always choke after World Cup finals 2006. Both got trashed by Netherlands in Euro 2008
and both also went home early & ended up bottom of their respective group in World Cup 2010.

makes u wonder when u see a country like Burkina Faso can go to top 50

they drew 0-0 with Drogba's Ivory Coast and only lost 0-1 to finalist Ghana in this year's African Cup of Nation. They also finished third place in FIFA U-17 World Cup Final (2001), which would be ripe for senior team right about now.. their position now is their best ever....

Wow Egypt at 9th unbelieveable much better than Italy at 14th.

haha i m expecting egypt 2 play world cup 2014 this time around...they dy conquer africa twice...so they should b capable 2 play world cup dy n i will take note egypt next s the new dark horse 4 brazil world cup round haha

the confederations finals and the world cups are where the points haul are....

all class A matches brings points... but different competitive matches have different weight... the best points are of coz at the World Cup matches.. followed by continental finals and then their qualifyings...

regional competition like the AFF Cup only counts as a friendly.... even though we are champions, Indonesia get more ranking points as they have more wins than us.... the better the opponent you beat at a friendly, the more points you get.

FIFA's ranking system has always been questionable. I don't care where they got their points because England are definitely not the 6th best team in the world. They are vastly overrated and the media has to take some blame for constantly building them up. I can understand why Italy and France are where they are. Neither had really impressive World Cup qualifying campaigns. France only sealed their place after Henry's double handball against Ireland. Both teams were also pathetic in the tournament proper. Even New Zealand had a better campaign and that puts things in perspective.

Malaysia has climbed 6 places but I really think that we should be on top of countries like St. Vincent and Grenadines (who have a population of only 125,000 which is less than the population of Taiping. Also their Premier League was formed in 2009), Rwanda (once ravaged with civil war and genocide), and Dominica was boast no professional league and has the population of Jerantut (72,000). In contrast we have ample facilities, a professional league and more funding. We really need to start getting our act together. If the Harimau Muda's win is anything to go by, maybe and just maybe there is a dim, faint light at the end of the tunnel.

same here. For example how can teams like Norway & Croatia are ahead of Serbia. They not even qualify in recent World Cup..while Serbia top of their group

at no.6. Don't tell me bcoz of the Foreign Premier League influence towards UEFA & FIFA.

Japan did well during qualification and final tournament. Losing only 1-0 and they could've drawn with Holland, beating both Cameroon & Denmark and nearly
beaten Paraguay. And recently they just beat Argentina 1-0 who just happen to trash World Champ Spain 4-1.

whatever it is, i'm sure they will flop in every major tournament they participate. mark my words

the ranking points are not based on current form only... its based on increasing average of 4 years... and points are based on matches result.. not the title...

and any sort of 'influence' cannot change the mathematics of the ranking..

i am satisfied with the formula that they use to calculate the points. But i dont agree that when you lose you get 0 points. Surely when Indonesia lose 0-7 againsy Uruguay in the friendly, the should get more point in that match then Mongolia who have no matches at all...
