Guys, my optoma65 spoils already thanks to thunder.

So what should I get now ar?

main usage: Movies only.

Concerns :

If get back HDready projector, means getting back Optoma65 which seems stupid to do so

If getting Full HD one, cost me nearly RM10k (or at least RM8k more) which is too much for me

If getting LCD/Plasma, the size will be much much smaller, and i am a fan of projector for movies. Somemore i have a sorta dedicated room for movies. Besides, if get LCD/Plasma, then my projector screen will be wasted.

So guys, what you all suggest ar?

Budget: Around Rm5k only

Get cheap full HD proj now and wait for fancy full HD/3D proj to have massive price drop. Don't think I will go back to TV again. my 2 cents.

You mean...
1. Wall socket power switch is "on" but...
2. Projector power switch is "off"

And got hit by lighting?

It is unsafe to do so. Always unplug when not in use.

Get a HD20 since it is below RM5K now. Like other members mentioned, it will be too hard to go back to smaller screen size. I get used to my 92" screen. When watch movies / astro with the 50" plasma, kinda feel too small blush.gif

Once you step in the projector world, there is NO turning back. It is just as addictive as in HD world.

1 word for advice is "Unplug" the wall socket when not in use. I know many ppl dont do that due to laziness. I have made it a habit to detach the power cable every nite before going to bed, just like u must brush your teeth before sleep. On another note, I have come across a frd who even going to the extreme to observe the weather condition before switching his mega bucks systems ON....LOL.

Yes, I am selling it. But on order basis. I am planning to change to JVC DLA-HD250, which is slightly below RM9K.

Please come and test. My shop is nearby where you waited for me. The HT system is a few leaps forward compares to my previous system that you auditioned smile.gif

But what if there's a sudden thunderstorm in the middle of a movie? I had a PC destroyed once by a bolt from a clear blue sky.

Get a surge protector to protect your valuable electrical appliance. I have cal-lab lightning isolators protecting my projector which is 24 hours connected to the wall socket.

Amazing how superior protection inside all appliances and three kilometers of sky cannot stop that surge. But miracle cal-lab devices do.

Well if I were in your position, if you have budget constraint, its better to change back to a 50' LCD or plasma.

1. you can watch low resolution program anytime.
2. you can watch it in day light.
3. By now you would probably have realised, great movie picture quality does not mean its worth keeping the movie. Most of the greatest film that make you remember is of lower quality make. How often you can watch an Avatar ?
4. save resources on sound quality, which I think is slightly harder to achieve then picture quality. Even a basic computer Mobo can already achieve almost perfect 1080p PQ.

Just my two cents. No offense to others.

Really, what kind of superior protection is inbuilt inside all appliances?

Similarly, is 3 km of sky designed to stop surges?

Yeah, I doubt Cal-lab or any affordable lightning protector can protect our A/V equipments if it is a direct hit.

To the OP: if you can arrange a freight forwarder to deliver your package from the US to Malaysia, you can do a bank transfer with Projector People to get the Epson 8350 1080p/24 projector. It's about USD1200. They ship free to the freight forwarder. You pay another USD200 to ship to the US.

Total cost to you is RM4300. Plus bank transfer fees.
