good news....managed to order my Z-5500 from a shop in Penang...the one I frequent happens to be a master dealer for Logitech products in Penang and mine's on the way hehehe......
*
Sweeet... No regrets man... I live in Sarawak and no one sells S750 or Z5500 here...

I got mine back in January or February for 1500... The shops here could have ordered mine but they were gonna charge me 1800!!!

So i found frens going to KL for holiday and asked them to get it for me for 1500 and i gave him extra 150 for excess baggage payment in Air Asia (they suck). So for a total of 1650 i got my Z5500.

Now im on the hunt for a sound card for it cause i was flat broke after buying it. hahaha...

Penang is in West Malaysia and shud be easier to get it than Sarawak dude...
I tell u it wasnt easy... took 3 frens to carry the speaker at the airport hahaha...
The complained about it to me... hahaha... but while they were testing the speaker in a KL aparment they rented, they called me out of excitement cause they thought the speaker was soo cool... then their neighbour started knocking on the door to complain hahaha...

Which reminds me, my speaker blew the fuse once and i replaced it sad.gif But lucky it was just the fuse, so now i keep my z5500 main power behind the woofer off b4 i turn on the socket power. I think it was due to a power spike in my house...

Congrats on ur purchase...

which would be the preferred digital cable??

Optical or Coaxial?

Pro n cons of each?

I got an optical cable for my Z5500 3 days ago. The sound is much much more clearer compared to the 3 coloured cable(forgot what they are called). Never tried coaxial, so can any pro enlighten us?

Im still hunting for my sound card hahaha... prefer something with optical output... but im still looking at xtreme music. U guys in the west shud be thankful u live there... the shops here in Sarawak wanna charge me RM570 for Xtreme Music... they must think i look dumb... im looking for frens to help me buy over there again hehehe

the connection head is almost the same but using a Digital Coax Cable is advisable..
Ohh.. i read about why coaxial is better...

I was thinking of finding a 3.5mm convert to coaxial type plug... this is to match with xtreme music's digital i/o...

Any idea where i can find this? i was looking round my local electronics department store but so far i have only been to one place.. havent really started the hunt yet... Do u think i can find this part in electronics shops? If i can then i might start the HUNT! lol

Me too got this problem... i am going to get some power stabilizers for my pc and speaker soon at a later time. Mine pops when turning on the lights, fan, aircon and sometimes when the aircon increases the power it pops too... my modem is also affected when this happens and i can hear a click from it and sometimes will cause me to be disconnected. This only happens majority at night tho when 3 other air con is turned on in the house... i think cause they pull a lot of power and causes unstability. Oh and the vacumm cleaner also does this... doesnt matter where it is in the house... the vacumm will cause the pop 50% of the time... very annoying and scary thing to hear... lol... i too wonder why this happens.

Hmmm, well z5500 isnt really for music especially low volume. Unless you blast it like i do. The sound comes "out" better then.

If your looking for good and sweet treble, then i think you picked the wrong speaker. Aego M or some altec models would be a better choice. But for movies and game, no other multimedia speaker makes me happier.

Im also a newbie but from 2 years using my Z5500, I would suggest you use analog instead of digital for music and use stereo or stereo x2. Or else your sound card would be wasted. When you use digital signal, the sound does not go through you soundcard DAC. If so you might as well use pc's built in optical out.

My music does sound better with analog from Aurilium then the optical out. More sweet.

Thats about right, but i would suggest stereo or stereox2 for surround sound listening... the reason, sound staging is better and the bass is more tight and less overpowering cause 6 ch is more for movie also i guess

i used to like 6ch direct also cause i felt the middle speaker was sad and lonely, after a while i didnt care anymore as the soundstaging for stereo i felt was better... youll be surprised cause it really feels like the singer is in front of you and most ppl will think the centre channel is playing but its not... you may like it differently though... but its better you experience yourself...

btw, i think speaker position for the z5500 is important or else instrument details might be lost smile.gif so dun forget to set it right.

I bought 2 fuse for i dunno, 60 or 80 cents each. 1 lasted me for 2 years since original fuse burnt after 3 days. The other one, is still in my drawer and i was looking at it last week and it had like a brownish oil in there.... wonder why and is it still usable hahaha... but for safety i will ask one of the five technitians at my office on monday.

Hi, i wanna ask, what sort of cables are a good upgrade from the stock cables for my Z5500?

Is there any noticable difference in sound quality with the upgrade?

Im using Philips Aurillium wub.gif with this speaker and when i use Direct Stereo x2, i notice there is inteference sound at around 70% volume. But no inteference when i use Digital Stereo x2. Is there a way to solve this? Analog from the SC sounds better than digital therefore i still wanna use analog. I figure cause Aurillium DAC is better than built-in DAC.

Note: I have lots those black round stone that you normally see in power supply and telephone systems and i looped them around the 3 colour cable that connect the SC and Control Pod as i heard they reduce inteference and dont seem to work.. lol

Anyone of you guys tried stereo x2 but with the 4 speakers positioned in front like a 2.1 setup? What do you guys think of it? I do this sometimes and feel the soundstage feels wider.

Sorry OOT, I think below 10k is more approriate to be call entry level biggrin.gif

For me, digital on Z5500D sounds not as good as analog from my soundcard. But everyone got different tastes. smile.gif A SC is a must if your still on onbourd SC if your using Z5500D.

Woudnt built in optical to DAC be the same? Light is light right?

Sorry, if this is noobish, just want to understand. But from what i tested on my pc before, my sc optical out seems better than my onboard. (i havent tried onboard more than a yr, audio memory faded). Dont understand why. perhaps i can be enlightned.

omg this 2 guys, ear really made of steel. lol

My Z5500D Sub 30% is tight and clear. Anymore is boomy and loss of quality. Volume 25% max 45%
Stereo mode for nice imaging. Stereo x2 if u want the surrounded feel but not for me.

For logi85, get chalang PA speaker nice and loud.
