logi, since your sound card is fine, your prob is speaker side. Next you need test with optical or coaxial. If they work the problem is either the cable broken, connection not good or the control pod rosak.

I remember last time you say you like boom boom right? Maybe you boom your speaker over liaw. 

Time to buy new boom boom speaker.

Your house shud have dvd player right... some of them got optical... use tat but you need buy optical cable...

if am not wrong logictech z-5500D speakers come with 2 years warranty.

1 year by the place u bought 1 more year from logitech directly

Firstly u need identify wat smell is that? Dont tell me u cant tell the difference between cable burn and a dead animal?
Inside the subwoofer its very big  if it die near corner corner your hand cant reach there too. So i suggest u find someone to identify wat smell is tat?

Yes something inside the subwoofer is burned la duh.

Haha nobody want come pickup u know how heavy is it. Me myself also cant carry the subwooder le. Somemore must carry to car then drive there then bring up.

Its important to put ur sub at a well ventilated place if u blast quite high volume.... your vid in youtube, i think not good enuf ventilation?

U very unlucky sir. I bought mine since 2005 until now still perfect condition except the pod screen blurry. The fuse also never burn before.

Is like tat one next time u go thru reseller they will charge u. if u send direct to logitech centre no charge. U call him check who is his distributor send direct

wow the distributor gave u a new one for RM80? even though the control pod is old.. i guess thats a good deal. aren't u happy?

seems like a problematic control pod... why dont u ask for a control pod replacement?

you go thru many trouble. simple way is try and see if got ppl sell their pod or not... if not.. u not choise but to use stereo x2. try optical.
