Hi guys can anyone recommend me a good Home Theatre system for me?Main purpose would be for watching movies and shows,I rarely play games on my TV.My budget will be around less than RM1000,the cheaper the price the better though I know the cheaper it goes, the sound will be lower quality as well biggrin.gif

Rm1300 could get you Edifier S550

if not then go for Edifier DA5000PRO or Edifier HCS5640

I think he will want those DTS, surround stuff for movies, better you stick with HTIB in the market. Samsung, philips and even sony does give decent system within 1K. But don expect too much.

Edifier might have better SQ but will lack of the surround sound decoding capability.
Anyway this thread should be in Home Entertainment and not in here.

Ah yea HTIB would be good too,but it will come with a DVD player with it,but I'm also gonna get a separate Blu-ray player,so what to do with the DVD player? laugh.gif

And yea guess I should have opened it there, but I thought it was more suitable here

i don't think 1K can get a decent HT without DVD player...all sub 1K HT setup comes with a DVD player. Saw SONY's HT only system RRP RM1,999 at their website. That might be a good bet for ur purpose, but over ur budget. Maybe got christmas sales now...just shop around.

I won't suggest that. Not a good idea, coz those DVD HT comes with very limited input (max maybe 1 optical input) and can't decode DTS-MA or Dolby TrueHD.

You might as well buy a BD HT system around RM2K as well, which will decode all the Bluray audios properly. Around RM2K++.

Now this makes sense i wonder why i can't play bluray movies with HD sound via my LG DVD HTIB. Lol doh.gif . TS, you gotta consider what Matrix mention about getting BD HTIB system. You'll be regret when you cannot fully enjoy while watching bluray movie with only Dolby and DTS sound.

Yea I did think of getting a Blu-Ray Home Theatre System as it will suit what I want, but it's hell lot of expensive ohmy.gif I think I will just get a BD player then,no need to get a home theatre smile.gif The TV speakers will do I guess

1. Think of your budget first.
2. Who wouldn't want a better system..hah?
3. No matter how decent the system you purchased, at the end you just can't find yourself satisfied with what u have.
4. Couple years later, those 'decent' gadgets you having will be 'outdated'

So, just buy the one which suits you & enjoy as early as you can. Cheers

If you know your stuff, willing to take some chances, try going for 2nd stuff. It will surely sound better than most fancy looking HTiB out there.

Something basic like this
http://www.mudah.my/Yamaha+av+receiver+wit...ker-7772896.htm

There are some systems in the lowyat garage sale as well.

But always never trust them especially from Mudah..always do background checks....and you need to go there to audition the stuff.
Things might look good in the pictures, but the real thing might be different...

Ask for at least one week personal warranty cash back if it doesn't work as it should.
And when you carry back the AVR be extra careful as for old stuff the electronic components or solder joint sometimes fail due to shock and vibrations

That will set you up nicely..a year or two later, can upgrade to HD audio, better subs, speakers and AVR.. etc

Not many ppl can shell out Rm3~4K to get a nice system. Spend on what you can afford..and think abt upgrading later on...there is always room to grow in the future.

Good Luck

Sorry but I don't really want to buy 2nd hand, especially electrical things some more sweat.gif

I was just looking around for a good enough HTIB like LG or Sony, those around RM1000 or less,I'm no audiophile,so not really concerned much about sound,so for now I think the TV speakers will do,or I might get one of those 5.1 PC speakers to be used with the TV,should be good enough biggrin.gif

Guys, i am planning to buy a HT system.
This HT must be able to play blu-ray and decode the HD audio.
Any entry level that you guys can suggest?
Is there a combo package blu-ray + HT?

I don't see any relevance a PS3 needs to go to a SONY AVR at all. There's no advantage or all, or wil it sound better.

You can, but there's no DD/DTS decoding.....only sounds louder, but no Oomph or high pitched effects etc.

The thing is...if u plug the 2.1 speakers to ur TV, you're gonna get stereo only. You need to plug it to an AVR, then only the proper DD/DTS audio track can be decoded and split to proper channels(including bass). I told u liao...no oomph...just flat louder sound. If u plug to PC is ok, coz ur PC software will do the decoding/down mixing for u.

Do u have separate media player? Maybe another solution is for you to plug directly to ur media player, which hopefully do the DD/DTS down mixing to 2.1.

I don't see any relevance a PS3 needs to go to a SONY AVR at all. There's no advantage or all, or wil it sound better.

SONY PS3 will sound as good with any other AVR with the same spec.. but it will be the best if that is the one that suit ur budget nicely tongue.gif ie; if I end up with 2 AVR with the same price and giving similar result i'll take the one with the same brand.

waaaa sweat.gif this is getting off the topic... my earlier q's did the diff of 600-700 between onkyo n sony really hv a difference... notworthy.gif

Still NO logic. Given same price and same performance. You should toss a coin and decide. tongue.gif

This is what i found out about 2 Sony products that i am planning to buy. Please add in or correct me if i'm wrong on any point here:

BDV-E370 (RM2299)
Pros
- Cool setup for a relatively good price blu-ray +HT set
- you can opt to add in WAHT-SBP2 (RM699), then your whole system will become a 7.1 set and 4 speakers are wireless
- the amplifier decodes almost all sound - includes Dolby-TrueHD and DTS-HD

Cons
- No HDMI input

HT-SF470 (RM1999)
Pros
- stand alone HT set
- you can opt to add in WAHT-SBP2 (RM699), then your whole system will become a 7.1 set and 4 speakers are wireless
- 3 HDMI input- so you can use it for BD playa, Astro byond and PS3

Cons
- Does not decode Dolby-TrueHD and DTS-HD

Despite the BDV-E370 not having any HDMI inputs, you can still connect devices to it via a digital coxial or a digital optical cable right? Although the HT-SF470 might seem to be more future proof compared to the BDV-E370, I think for the price better get those better amps and speakers. hmm.gif

Just saw a Sony roadshow in jusco bukit indah in JB, organised by sen q. They throw price for BDV-E370. Till tomorrow, they are selling it at RM1799!!!!

Check with them on HT-SF470, no ready stock and no discount. Dang!
