i just wonder shrimp and SAE will get along well..
just finish my 3 feet tank, and want to fill with various shrimp, but i want to keep SAE to maintain algae..also otto.

yesterday, inside 1.5 tank, i found shrimp skin, i thought my yamato died..just realize now that they are still alive!nice!

the other thing, is there anybody here use J type thermometer like ADA, i mean immitation one...it look nice!
found one selling at ebay, but the price almost rm50, including transportation..

You just finish setup?
Let the tank stable first before adding in shrimps
For Otto or SAE just add them straight smile.gif
*
yeah, just finish my 3 feet tank.
so how long i need to cycle my water to add shrimp?
this SAE and otto will eat my baby shrimp?

Get some bio media from established aquarium and the cycling can be shorten to about 3 weeks... From my experience... blush.gif
*
actually i bought second hand filter eheim 2217, with all bio rio media.
so can i just plug n play?

just wonder, submerse and immerse got diff on leave or colour of plant?

3 months to be safe. Otherwise you will see some shrimp give you abnormal swimming style and die.

SAE will eat your baby shrimp.
Otto is herbivore... don't worry.
*
if SAE not getting along with shrimp, what fauna i need to have to take care of algae?
yamato and otto only? is it enough? i thought each of them got their own appetite and not cover others appetite..

so, if i decide not to have SAE on my tank, no need to have shrimp's shelter right?

water tab got clorine, and it is not food for fish or shrimp, is it also apply to plant?

same fate with my glosso, but the culprit is not yamato, but golden algae eater.
always make my water cloudy....by digging my soil and it is big. i try to catch, but it so fast, i plan to put chemical to kill it, but pity to my plant and other fish. haha tongue.gif

Cannot, you need to get it from running tanks. The bio rings you got already dried up one right? That means all the beneficial bacteria all dead already, no point. You cycle the tank so that beneficial bacteria will grow on the bio media and all the surface of the tank for their nitrifying properties.

I think if your yamatoes are big enough you won't need shelter. Unless you putting in Red cherry shrimps or Crystal red shrimps la. SAE is treasured only for their appetite for young BBA, they are the only ones who eats them. Yamatoes can take care of the rest.

Fro the chlorine part, yes, but not as apparent as its effects on the fauna.

Better take the golden algae eater(a.k.a chinese algae eater) out, they are aggressive and they will grow very big. Might kill your yamatoes also... tongue.gif
*
but it is so fast, and it always hide below rock and the rock cannot be remove.
i try to catch it first la. no choice..damn golden algae eater

Golden algea eater is not same as chinese algea eater
As known as golden, it is pink/white in color. Some shop call it as albino algea eater

Chinese algea eater, Siamese algea eater, flying fox is like 3twin brothers smile.gif
They looked almost alike
Try google for more information
I can put up an article about how to diff them if you guys wants smile.gif

I dont think so. It looks like it is dying sad.gif
It seems growing upwards in stead of doing carpet on your soil?
*
at first, i plant glosso like stem plant. then i trim until it is level with soil.
then, the leaves change colour like attach photos. makes me worry.
the shop im buying from, he said that the leaves will die first because changing state from immerse to submerse.
now waiting for new leave to come out..
there is another said that, it is becuase, the left over or dirt cover the leaves..

wohh.. heavy investment .. lolx.. got it how much ?

of course.. coz ur surrounding temp is higher than ur tank (unless u are in cooler air cond room); when warmer air touch ur tank glass(cooler), they become mist (water drip)...

the working theory is same as air cond...  icon_rolleyes.gif
*
new set. 850. i want to put fan, but my tank place at my hall. it doesnt seem nice to have hanging fan.

is there any work around to void the mist? please dont tell me to put aircond at my hall... sad.gif

so i guess u have to wipe the water manually..  biggrin.gif

ya lo. my thinking now is, my plant already become frozen vegetable..
haha..not yet put fauna..dont know what happen to them suddenly environment become cold.

Mist theory is correct as what ciohbu say
Can I know the reason you set till 25C? Your plant love this temp but it will kill your electricity bill smile.gif
Yes, hailea will start the compressor once it sense temp reach 26, then stop after cool to 25C
*
just install maa.. tongue.gif
dont know optimal setting for aquarium vs electricity.
do you mind sharing bro.
strange, mine yesterday i set to 27, but it goes to 24.7.
even more strange, my thermometer show reading 23~24..(i never bother since cheap thermometer, not accurate)
then i set to 25 lor. haha
so, is it ok to set 26~27? hmm.gif

coz lrt constally moving, i guess the air dries the mist... also, might be the sun too hot, thus evaporates the mist

i agree..but how to explain, office environment that cold and no mist on hot day? only encounter when raining day only.

I think you need to check your chiller thermostat
If you set to 27, compressor will only run till 27.0
You are saying that even when you set to 27C, the chiller will run till 24.7C?
The reading is from chiller or external thermometer?
*
bro, from chiller.

Added on May 18, 2011, 2:17 pmat 1.50pm my chiller reading is 26.1 (since I already setup back the temp control at 26)...then just 5 minutes ago...to be exact 2.10pm (it stopped), my chiller reading is 24.7...

is this correct behaviour?

It should had stop at 26.0
It seems that there is some wiring prob with your chiller
Thermostats reading is correct but it is unable to stop after reaching correct temp
The temp stop at 24.7C because it is the max chilling capability of your hailea (I guess)
I currently using 2215 with hailea 150a. Temp set 27C. So far so good
*
bro,
what is your tank size?

I think you need another 1000L/h
How long is your hose from filter to chiller, chiller to tank?
Your filter is fully packed with media?
*
yes, fully pack with media. (all bio rio)
piping, about 45cm..

perhaps there's mistake during the installation. can draw us a picture?

inlet (filter) -> filter -> outlet (filter) -> Inlet (chiller) -> chiller -> outlet (chiller)

the flow is like this..

2215 is connected to the chiller
Hose length: 4feet from tank to filter, 2.5feet from filter to chiller, 4 feet from chiller back to tank
My 2215 is only 60% media because hose length is quite far
Flow rate doesn't seems effect much before/after install chiller
*
My piping is less than yours, maybe chiller is the culprit..
i will get salesman to come to my house to fix everything that he sell to me! ..haha

i think u should set up like this:
inlet (chiller) -> chillerr -> outlet (chiller) -> Inlet (filter) -> filter -> outlet (filter)
try to get a check valve for ur hose connection for chiller, while u syphone out the water to fill the chiller and connect the hose from ur chiller outlet to ur filter inlet.

it's not neceesary to get the pump for ur aquarium to pump the water to ur chiller.
*
If like this, all debris might sangkut at chiller right?
Nevermind, i think i already found the culprit. It is a lily pipe. The want that suck water out. Im using 13mm. Suppose to use 17mm

is there any method to place the chiller? I mean do not block the back side of chiller or..

Arh. 2217 need 17mm inlet and 12mm outlet
DO NOT connect tank->chiller->filter->tank
All dirty water will flow into your chiller before filter

Do not block front and back of the chiller
Chiller shall not be placed inside cabinet

Yes. It is possible to connect a pump (submerge/emerge) also can
But both kind of pump will generate much more heat compare to canister
*
yeah, i make a connection like a previous post.
chiller is not place inside cabinet, just beside cabinet. and between wall and the backside, there is a gap about 15cm..
ermm...caniseter produce heat, but not too much right? now i change my canister too ejet 3388..performance wise on flow rate..better that eheim 2217 with same media..

chiller..yesterday, do a one to one exchange with new unit and this new unit still not open from carton box from advance-reef... i doubt my second chiller also got a prob..because it is a same problem like the first one..

i wonder what went wrong..

now i'm thinking to use timer to control the chiller...2 hour on/off cycle..
