Yes...so if I want a planted tank need to get ADA soil is it?
How often do I have to give the fertiliser?
I have a rectangular fish filter,those normal one for the tank...is it needed or planted tank don't need filter?
At the moment I don't have co2 but after seeing your thread,the price being cheaper by RM100 and x2 of the weight compared to the price my LFS is selling at,I've decided to get 1 from you so you got PM smile.gif The plant cannot thrive without co2 right?
LOL,sorry for all the questions.
*
Adding soil is because it provides nutrien to your carpet plant. It depends on which type of plant you want to put in. If root type sure need soil. In my opinion, to save cost, I put crushed lava rock as base substrates and top up with amazonia. Most of us making a mountain landscape so it would cost you around rm300 just buying the soil

Eg: plants like moss does not need soil to grow. They take nutrient from water

In planted tank, bacteria is very important. Normal type filter u mentioned does not provide good enviroment for bacteria growth. Canister filter is highly recommended

I m dosing 5 drops fert weekly + 1 cap algea remover + 1cap normal liquid fert

QUOTE(OctoberFly @ Apr 10 2011, 11:00 PM)
It's brown! I made sure of it. sad.gif So my guppies won't eat it uh? The website you provided says that I should increase intensity of light and change water... Will it really go away like that? I don't have to scrape it off uhh?  sweat.gif
*
Brown = dead
Guppy won't eat them. If they are floating then remove them
Mostly is caused by your light. I can grow moss with my outdoor tank with no water flow or co2 or addition ferts
Make sure your light is ok then only buy another batch of plants.

Hello welcome,
fiona i would recommended you cycle your tank 1st before put in fish to stress them... and if you want to start a planted tank ,
for 2 feet aquarium i would recommended canister filter.. over filter is provide the good deliverance of fert for more information
below is the link that recommended to you to have some reading

Souce : http://www.littlegreencorner.com/tipsFilteration.html

about the all in one fert, yes it is cheap but one thing is uncontrollable, if you over dose algae will come easily or you less dosage, the plant wont have enough fert...
and about the substrate, just amazonia regular will do, dont need those power sand... this is cost budget suggestion =)
lastly please take note.... Filter is Heart of Aquarium... so invest in a canister if you wanna go for planted tank...

IMO,
these is the minimum requirement for starting planted tank to invest in

1. Canister Filter RM200 can get a good one already MIC brand =)
2.Substrate ADA 9liter RM88 regular type enough for 2 feet starter tank ( dont need slope yet =) maybe can do abit slope hehe )
3. Co2 ( RM 200  already can get 3kg + Manual Regulator )
4. Light ( RM 35 for a 2 feet PLL 55Watt MIC brand , buy at Electrical shop... DO NOT GO FISH SHOP BUY... they WILL POTONG U !! )

you guys do have a nice tank to watch lying around smile.gif

@ashpitt,
so that's last year's, so this year's tank should be more promising rite? wink.gif
p/s: i've seen this tank before i think. so where's the new one? tongue.gif

@radvit,
looks a lil bit un-organized but for me, my shrimps will love to play hide and seek in this kind of tank. at least you manage to grow. that's the important part tongue.gif

As long as you got a co2 tank, it can save a lot trouble doing DIY CO2.
Some ppl prefer bigger tank, some need smaller
Some lazy to go refill every few month
Depending on your budget and your cabinet size smile.gif
