You got cardinals means very hard to breed shrimps liao. Shrimplets will become snacks unless you got lots of hiding places for them. They're pretty easy to breed since they're similar to cherry shrimps.

So my 48w lights just fell into my tank when i bumped it accidentally when moving my filter around.

There was some buzzing then the lights went dead.

A friend told me that the ballast is dead. How much does it cost to replace one? Will the LFS like NA be able to replace it for me?

Gonna take it back to NA tomorrow if it's possible.
*
where u bought it ? still got warranty ?

if no more warranty then maybe u can DIY urself and cabut everything out.. hehe tongue.gif i think better go straight to electrical shop, if u go lfs, they still have to go electrical shop to purchase, at the end, lfs charge u more.. i think

im also curious what the function of carbon filter.
*
The carbon is actually to adsorb dangerous element/material in fish tank..but for planted tank..some say it will adsorb too much n suck away all the important element for plant to grow ... so wanna see how many here using carbon n plan stil growing strong smile.gif

i dont use carbon. it will adsorb all the fertilizer.
*
exactly... there are debates over the net whether using carbon will absorb all the fert

some recommend only use carbon after u put fish medic , then take it out after few days, long period is not recommended

some say better replace carbon with seachem purigen unsure.gif

anyone here keeping CRS with Montmorillonite ?

some said it will help shrimp molding + some extra mineral for their heath ?

discussion over other forum :

http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/shrimp-o...s-benefits.html

http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/shrimp-o...rs-mineral.html

from wiki :

QUOTE
Montmorillonite is a very soft phyllosilicate group of minerals that typically form in microscopic crystals

Chemically it is hydrated sodium calcium aluminium magnesium silicate hydroxide (Na,Ca)0.33(Al,Mg)2(Si4O10)(OH)2·nH2O. Potassium, iron, and other cations are common substitutes, the exact ratio of cations varies with source. It often occurs intermixed with chlorite, muscovite, illite, cookeite and kaolinite.

It is used in agriculture to improve growth performance of piglets and fish

Montmorillonite is proven to be effective in use as an adsorptive of heavy metals, toxins, and hazardous chemicals
