Hi,

New G5 user here n looking forward to update it with froyo.

Recently, I sent 2 (two) messages to Samsung M'sia OCS asking about the availability of Froyo upgrades.

Their replies below:
1st reply (same question/enquiry)

At first, my initial response was, "WTF?" as they seemed to be ignoring to both my questions/enquiries.

But then, I realized, they might just be saying that the update is already available and the update can be applied at any Samsung's nearest Customer Service Centre!

Not really sure if that's the case or the Customer service personnel were really lazy to answer my (commonly asked) enquiry.

Oh, and can I be added to the dropbox list?

Thanks and long live Galaxy 5 users!

I get better info from City Square Samsung booth. They say, when the official Froyo released. They can help you to upgrade to Froyo. The will send the phone to Samsung Malaysia HQ for few weeks and we will be charged around rm20 - rm30. Your G5 will be upgraded to Froyo and you still have your warranty.
*
Where is the Samsung Malaysia HQ located? Is it at PJ one, or at Plaza berjaya one?

Edit: Few weeks? Erk! shocking.gif

lol why must samsung charge just to upgrade? somemore have to wait few weeks. sweat.gif

sure they will come out with easier way to do it. laugh.gif
*
Maybe because they have to send it to KL HQ (courier charges applicable). If you send it to HQ directly, should be free I think (if still under warranty).

@jaithesimpleguy: Samsung booth City Square in JB, right?

I just flashed my beloved G5 with Motafoca's 2.0.6 froyo. After first time reboot, it kept saying that process com.android.phone stopped unexpectedly then clicked force close and it kept on repeating, even though I tried to factory reset it. This issue is currently live right now, as I typed, now.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Added on January 22, 2011, 10:12 pmNow stuck on exclamation icon/logo! Help!

Added on January 22, 2011, 10:14 pmNow booted back to Froyo, but still having the com.android.phone crashing.

Adeh... Anyone?

bro. u should have read all the instructions for motafoca's rom carefully, you need android SDK tools to hard reset the phone, via command lines using ms-dos, not possible through the phone itself, this rom is a bit 'different'
*
I have installed the SDK, but I can't say I stumbled any instructions to "hard reset" using the sdk tools.

Care to point me to the right direction?

Another note, I followed instruction provided on 1st post by blacktubi.

Tried hard reset it 3 times already. now booting without simcard, seems the com.android.phone has stopped crashing.

What could be the problem?

Always HARD RESET before flashing to prevent problem icon_rolleyes.gif
Install 2.0.6 first then install ext2
*
I did HARD RESET dude. I followed the steps accordingly.

Ishk...

This is what I did:

1. HARD RESET. Phone back to stock came from shop. (Not factory reset, but hard reset using the shortcodes)
2. Opened Odin and selected the i5508 ops then the 2.0.6 tar.md5 (auto checked the file and it was successful verified.
3. Entered download mode then connected with PC using usb (already isntalled Kies)
4.Detected by Odin and shows yellow block on the 1st one
5. Clicked start and waited.
6. Somehow the following steps doesn't show as described on 1st post, it was take to the Samsung Recovery Utils for BML and theres 4 options to choose
-reboot system now
-apply sdcard:update.zip
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache partition
7. Waited --- Then Odin says PASS
8. Nothing happens afterwards, so i selected "reboot system now" and restarted.
9. Nice boot logo show and broought to Froyo (yeay!(?)) but then having com.android.phone crashing.
10. removed simcard, problem gone. WTH?
11. What should I do now?

Thanks for helping out!

Added on January 22, 2011, 10:43 pmanother note: no, haven't gone to the ext2 steps yet.

Thinking that I pulled it off using VirtualBox on Mac, it's quite mind boggling to the reason I went ahead flashing the rom.

Haha But I did it!

Thanks for those who has helped!

Well, it's been fun with Froyo, but with missing compass, felt like the device missing some of its shine as I do travel a lot and if the compass not functioning, then I can't use PapaGo it seems.

Anyway, any tutorial on how to reflash the stock ROM?

Thanks.

Added on January 23, 2011, 1:08 pmOh, no worries, found a tutorial on samfirmware.com site.

Erm can i ask about the kies software. Is it download from samsung mobile web or directly install from the disc given within the box of SG5? Which version u using now? Coz these 2 kies r different from each other. Thx.
*
Obviously, the web version should offer the latest compared to the cd version.

im not going to drag this thread into an argument about task killers, all i'm going to say is that you can kill apps with the stock android, and killing apps is rather useless for linux architecture. the rest you can google it up.
*
I agree with you, spacelion, but people still thinks Android apps runs like WinMo.

To further explain, read this: Lifehacker - Android Task Killers Explained: What They Do and Why You Shouldn't Use Them
