My left arm can lift less compared to my right arm. i've been trying to lift more on my left hand to try and balance it out but so far it hasn't helped. it's about 10-20% weaker if i were to put it in numbers. when i'm doing double hander stuff i can feel my stronger arm is doing more work to compensate, leading to my left side getting weaker and weaker. is there a proper way to fix this?

there's a 2 ways tat i practise. i used to have unbalanced size n shape between my arms.
1) train more set with the weaker part
2) train with ur weaker arm 1st, then do the same weight/sets/reps for ur other arm
u hv to c which works for u better

Switch from the barbell to dumbells, your body should start bridging the gap.

This is common. It's natural, one side will always be a little stronger than the other. Like the other guys said, use dumbbells, do a few more reps on the weaker side to level things out.

QUOTE(statikinetic @ Dec 22 2010, 05:10 PM) Switch from the barbell to dumbells, your body should start bridging the gap. ^^^ statikinetic had it right. Further, a lot of time what people call "strength" is actually a matter of "coordination". Which hand do you brush your teeth with? Right hand? Ok what happens if you try brushing your teeth with your left hand? That tooth brush will probably end up in your eye... yet your right hand knows exactly where each and ever little nook and cranny goes! Why is that? Your right hand is more coordinated than your left... and this coordination can affect your lift sometimes. So just use dumbbells and your left hand will "learn" the coordination and become as skilled at lifting as your right hand. Don't always think of it in terms of strength.

hmm, but i can brush my teeth equally well with both hands dont think its all about coordination though, i know a few guys who trains for a while now and one hand always gives out before the other. unilateral training does build up strength too

is there any push ups intended to have more emphasis on the left hand than the right ? Such as lifting up our legs etc

Yes my dominant arm are noticeably stronger, muscular than my non-dominant. Since I'm tennis & badminton player, especially when wearing tshirt it's so obvious lol. One all urat come out another one just wire-like urat..

my non-dominant hand seems to be bigger than my dominant hand (weirdly) but my dominant hand can lift weights that doubles my non-dominant hand

QUOTE(hoxy @ Aug 13 2011, 04:32 PM) It is counter productive if you ask me. Just aim for identical rep between both arm. Perhaps emphasizing on doing it more slowly on the non dominant arm will bring the arm up to the same level as the other arm. The rep count between both arm still need to be the same though... oh,thanks for the tips..it's pissing me off when doing biceps or triceps exercise..my lefties cant catch up with my right and when im benching, the bar will be lower on the left .. lol.

actually, this shouldn't be a problem after a long time of training... is just the matter of time and consistency, i have both equally strong arms and size vary from 0.2 inches only...

Of course, daily we use our dominant hand to brush teeth, chopstick, lift, drive, sports etc. Sure will one side bigger. However my right side of the chest is smaller than my left. Because dominant arm more movement so more fit result is smaller. Left side is more meaty..

Unilateral exercises, do your weaker arm first. Then use the same rep range and weight for your stronger hand. When doing barbells, focus the squeeze and contraction more on the weaker side. Mind muscle connection

I don't have real issues with one arm weaker by a big margin compared to the other. But does anyone encounter what I face? After working out(ex: biceps) I feel like one arm has a good pump and the other... nothing.

When I started bb I experienced this as well. After a long while the weaker arm caught up. It takes time.
