Hey guys.... got any GPS software to recommend that uses DATA ???

I gave up on the STUPID papago a-gps..... Bloody galaxy S GPS noob like shit!!.... It take Too damn long to LOCK when in a Cold start... and for most places the GPS doesnt WORK at all or gave wrong accuracy.... IM at a flyover for godsake and the thing isnt even accurate....

Its so annoying that the function "GPS" might as well labeled as a Kids Play thing...

Ive read somewhere that they say the Galaxy GPS is faulty due to Hardware anthenna problem .... how true is that??

Ive got a friend that kept saying his Galaxy S GPS no problem ..... Pukimak that idiot.... he only uses @ SS15... and for some reason i also did not find any trouble with the accuracy near that area.... But when we met up at other locations ... Both our Galaxy S show the same problem...

It realy works on a random behavior....

So for those of you that say "Oh my galaxy S GPS got no problem" .... try getting out of ur comfort zone and test it...

It depends on user actually. If u really wan a damn gd gps then better go for garmin phone. Alot of us are just casual user of gps and its not in must have list on phones dat v cant live without. Yeah one can hv impressive gps on garmin but will need to sacrifice.when it comes to overall performance. So it all depends smile.gif

But then .. whats the point of having a GPS function for the phone??

if samsung did not add that function.. i bet everyone would complain saying this is a noob phone....

But in this point... having a GPS function that is equal to not having a GPS function at all..

I did not expect a Phone cost RM2.5k to perform so badly...

By the way, mind if i ask ... what does you guys actualy uses ur Galaxy S for if this function and that function to you guys is not important??

If you want to talk about apps... why not just go for the HTC cheaper version of android or the nexus one?? since the galaxy S having lag problems anyway??

mine works fine use through out the north south highway when i balik kampung even at my kampung in kedah can get lock and signal

What firmnware and software do you use???

Heres my full experiance with the GPS....

1. Rarely get a lock indoor
2. Take an extremely LONG time to get a COLD START lock ... [120sec and abv] but once lock.. the next lock or so only takes less than 10sec...
3. It can get quite inaccurate at most of the time.....

Why cant GPS behave in a seemingly manner?? but i heard other phones could get their lock in less than 10sec for COLD start... no matter WHERE they are [as long out door] ......

Hello. First of all, what firmware do u use? Ive read somewhere that the european firmware has faster gps lock compared to asian one. As from my experience, while using eclair/froyo stock, im having difficulty to lock the satellite. It only works with a-gps enabled. But after upgrading to darky v5.x above, which uses xxjpu/jpx/jpy based fimware, i found that it actually fixed the gps! No need to use a-gps anymore with an accuracy of 5m with 8 or more gps lock in!
1. Well, if u dont enable the a-gps, it would be very unlikely to get lock! I've tested mine and it works inside shopping mall!
2. To me, a cold start normally takes longer time. 120sec is quite ok to me. Normally mine takes around 1min to get gps lock (without a-gps, mind u).
3. Its true. Sometimes it gets confused when there is two or more junctions.
Well, ive never heard any hp got gps fix less than 10sec. Mind telling me what hp is that?? Even my trusted garmin nuvi 1460 takes 30sec+- to get fix.

At the end of the day, it would be useful to have a gps built in inside our hp. Although it cant replaced a standalone gps, it still usable. And i find it sufficient enough to cater my day travel. If u dont find it useful, u might one to invest a external bluetooth gps to pair with your hp.  icon_rolleyes.gif

Sorry what??? im quite noob at this...

what is a-GPS?? is it the one that use data??

How fast is ur Cold start lock with darky??

i using stock firmwares

1. How to enable the a-gps?? is it the one that says Use wireless networks?? does it realy work on papago or GPS status etc?? i thought it only works for the google maps thats it..
2. With the new firmware ur cold start is how long??? 120sec is till ok ... But thats just occasionaly... sometimes .. it dont lock at all even with 8 satalites found or more..
3. My inaccuracy is that the position kept changing ... difficult to explain this ...

I saw my frens iphone4 can lock on to the maps very fast... less than 10sec..

Hey guys.. The use wireless network in gps settings does not work with papago in locking or what so ever right? Cause when it would instantly show my position @ google maps..but it doesn't seem to have any effect for papago cause I don't get lock even waited for 5 min (indoor which I world never get a lock with normal gps)

already checked before going into *#*#info#*#* to check Battery History .... ntg weird running ...
gonna try reboot my phone and continue monitor ...
get GPS Status .... on ur data and gps sensors ... get a lock then proceed to ur papago
hmm, maybe odin version different? i have read b4 last time someone used different odin version and failed ... cant confirm though ...

I was just wondering if the "USE WIRELESS NETWORK" function works with PAPAGO??

Cause previously some people replied saying that it helps to LOCK the GPS indoor or helps to lock FASTER....

But when i enable it ... it doesnt seem to have any effect on my papago... Neither does it work with GPS status or any GPS related apps...

It seems to only work on Google Maps in pointing out my location ...

Can anyone clarify this????

@alvinz

The GPS status is a bull crap.... i tested it... it took the same amount of time to Cold start on Papago as it's on GPS status .... so it make no differences

GPS issue doesn't seems to affect my SGS though. Just tried run the LBS test mode inside my room and get a locked within 12s with 6 satellites and 15m accuracy. Overall I felt GPS lock faster after I use speedmod..  thumbup.gif

There are basically 3 major groups here:

1. Stock ROM
2. Darky ROM (Dark side)
3. Doc ROM

Which is the best is for you to decide... brows.gif
