Hey pros.. really need your help.

Currently my desktop's monitor got problem. It display with a layer of yellow screen.
I believe is either the monitor itself got problem, or the graphic card or the cable.

I tried to pull of the cable from CPU, my monitor still show a layer of yellow screen.
Hence, if i m not mistaken it is the monitor problem. Anyone experience this before?

ok next question is that,

Since i used my desktop for almost 5 years. I guess is time for me to change a new one.

Therefore, i would like to ask the pro here.. what spec can i get if my budget is not more than RM1k.

< RM 1k = CPU + monitor.

my requirement is simple.

I don't play high graphic games.
I don't do graphic design.
I only need the computer for normal usage, office work, online surfing, and some facebook games.
I do not need large capacity of hard disk. 80GB is enough for me, as the desktop that i currently using is only 40GB.

Guys, need your advice on this. So that, i can look for people to help me get the spec and avoid from being con.
your help is much appreciated. notworthy.gif

Bro, thanks for the suggestion.

But it is out of my budget. My budget the max i can go is RM1k which including CPU and the monitor.

I know some might ask me to get a netbook, but i already have one and i feel much comfortable with using desktop.
And also i believe with that amount i can get something better than the netbook.

It's almost impossible to get a desktop + LCD (even a 18inch) under 1k. But slightly higher is possible

Anyway, I still recommend those small Acer desktop PC like wuwah said. I saw a model in my town selling for RM1K just like the spec I listed above, but of course it not comes with LCD. So add a LCD will make it RM1340... Smaller is better, sometime. It's cute, space saving, good for family. thumbup.gif

Anyway... this is WRONG forum section to post this, head to "Hardware" section next time. tongue.gif

you should able to reuse ur old CPU... i using a retired AMD now which is exact 6 years old (check my siggy) and running fine with Win7 32bit, i think my retired rig with Win7 perform better than WinXP... smile.gif for low budget, i would say buy a LCD monitor will sufficient and save your money for better rig in the future...

Right, that's remind of my old PC (5 years old) which almost same spec as yours.
AMD 64 2600, MSI K8MMV, 1GB DDR1, 9550, 320GB HDD, 17" Samsung 795MB, DVD drive.

I use it as media center now, running Windows 7 32-bit. Actually it still pretty good as long as you don't be so picky with the slow processing compared to today's hardwares tongue.gif

yeah, i am thinking of getting a second hand LCD monitor which i think will cost RM300?
Then keyboard and mouse and speaker can be excluded, because i don't mind using my old one.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestion.

Btw, at first i posted this thread in Hardware section, then i am wondering will this "casing and modification" sounds more relevant since i am thinking of assembly a cpu instead of buying a complete set. =x

Well, i guess my old CPU does not perform as good as yours. As i am not really good in hardware, and unsure how good is the rig for my old CPU.

i have AMD rig which 4 months old & 6 years old... i dont think have major differences in between for normal usage only (surf net, documentation)...
bcos computer loading speed usually bottleneck by HDD... since you dont have gaming or editing, CPU speed and RAM size not the issues...
unless u willing to change your HDD to SSD then definitely will boost some speed with new rig... smile.gif
