Hi I am absolutely clueless on TV Specs. I want to buy a TV which can play mkv and other file formats.

I am considering LGTV42LD460 and Samsung LA40C539.

Appreciate advice on pros and cons of each and a recommendation.

To me, you seems like asking 2 different questions.

1. If you want to play mkv etc, then you are asking about Media Player. Some TV have built in media player and some don't.

2. If you are talking about LG or Samsung, then you seems to be talking about picture quality.

The best is to buy any TV that you like...and then just add a WDTV or something like that...WDTV Live selling nowdays for RM 33X. The mini WDTV also can...cheaper...i think RM 200+ or so.
Worth because can play subs too. and nearly every other format. smile.gif
Plus can get on the net - Youtube, Facebook etc...plus supports keyboard.

Just a suggestion.
