Everybody keeps comparing Apple with the rest of the players. Well guys and girls, I have news for you. You can't.

Apple has control over everything. They make the hardware, the firmware, the software. That means whatever they do with the software, they know what's in the firmware, and what's in the hardware. Because of that, there is little chance of fouling up updates, and problems testing updates. Because hey, bar a few already defective set, every update I push out needed to be tested on at most 4 devices, all of which they make.

Contrast that to Wp7. To make it "Gempak!", all the headline says are "Windows Phone 7 update bricks phone".

The didn't actually say it only bricks Samsung phone. So if everyone else sails through the update fine (Including your's truly on a Mozart), whose fault is it that an official update bricks your phone. A very spesific model some more?

That's right. Way to go, Mr. Samsung.

Or let's do one better with Android. Halamak, pening I mau test, so... No Update For You. What? You want Update, do it yourself la.

I applaud Microsoft for trying to marry the Apple model and the Android model using their own special sauce, but lets not forget something all the reviewer (good or bad) has said in common :-

It's a very good phone. Not a gaming device, or a farting app device, a very good phone. Nice call, and call management. Good facebook integration in a unified contact list, complete with OTA sync to your email. Very good soft keyboard both in landscape and potrait, and none of the N8 "type your message first" syndrome.. Threaded SMS. Good email management. Why do I, a mac user (so much so I don't actually own a pc), instead of Iphoning myself, choose Wp7?

Because I wanted a phone.

Haha...thanx got it. Never thought of going to setting as other tiles can be deleted from menu.
*
You don't delete the tile, you actually unpin from the start menu. Whatever you unpinned stays in the app list, unless you uninstall it.

Personally I cannot understand why the update has to be rolled out in stages. the fruit company sends out update simultaneously worldwide without a glitch AFAIK. So why does Microsoft have a "queuing" system to roll out it's update. Do they have a much larger base than the robot or the fruit company?

Truly disappointing coming from the largest software company in the world! Sigh!  sad.gif  doh.gif

About the only hardware Microsoft can update simultaneously at one go, is the Xbox 360. Do you know why?

Like apple, the control everything, from the specs of the hardware to the Xbox Live servers. Little chance of there being a foul up. Apple knows that they only need to push update to at most 3 devices at one time, devices that are all the same spec and build.

Compare that to Wp7, which now has Dell, HTC, LG and Samsung putting out phone. One manufacturer decides to be funny (yes, I'm talking about Samsung), and bad press all around. So better to release in staggered fashion, at least if something goes boom, it is easier to rectify. Heck, if 4 months to wait for an update is too long, then go buy robot ler.

Oh wait. Some haven't got their frozen yogurt yet. whistling.gif

Likewise I believe that Apple does the same thing. The point is if you have a bone to pick with wp7, make sure it is the right bone to pick. The worse offender regarding updates are android phones. At least with wp7, you have microsoft comitted to give you updates.

Android manufactures can just blow you off without google batting an eyelid.

Why doesn't the desktop version of Microsoft Windows have this problem with Windows Update? There are even more manufacturers of PCs and laptops, but when Microsoft issues a security update, everybody gets it almost together. No such thing as staggered updates based on manufacturer.

Dude, seriously? You still can't figure it out?

Let's take your Iphone for example. Have you ever asked why nobody have hacked the phone to install android yet? I mean, it uses an ARM chip, so it should be kacang putih to port android, since android works on ARM chips, right? Or why can't you port iOS 4.3 to work on the HTC incredible then? Why is it possible to install Android on a HD2? If it is so easy, as you seem to indicate it is, then everyone on the android ecosystem would be running at least Froyo now.

But they aren't. See, reality is, smartphones are not built like computers. See, ten different manufacturers may make hundreds of computer configurations, but when the OS is booted, they all speak the same language with the OS regardless whether they came from Korea, Taiwan, Japan, Malaysia or the US.

Ten different manufacturers making ten different phones? Yes, they all may speak the same language, but they all use different dialects. So you have the Terengganu dialect phone speaking to an OS that only understand the official dialect. So what do you do? Of course, you teach the OS to understand the Terengganu dialect. That takes a lot of time, dude. So that is why, a firmware that has been customize to speak Kelantan Malay, you install on phone that only understand Johor dialect, you get a brick.

Kapish?

That being the case then, nobody knows what Adobe is going to do.

Practically speaking, they are at some point going to have to talk to Microsoft or vice versa since the only place of note to enable Flash support is the web browser.

Adobe may, as a show of support, make it prerequisite for Microsoft to support apps created using Adobe technologies to work with Wp7.

QUOTE(bigbear @ Apr 4 2011, 07:40 PM)
something strange popped up. I've got a m4v file that plays OK on Videolan and Zune on the desktop - the interview parts is clearly audible. But on my Mozart the interview part is missing audio, and plays just background music (which is a MP3 file inserted in iMovie).

Any ideas?
*
Well, could be that the audio part is in a format that the Mozart don't actually understand. In your case, it means that you have a video component, and 2 audio component, one the mp3 background music and the other the interview audio component.

Video codec, got, so it plays.

MP3 audio codec got, so it plays.

The interview audio Mozart don't understand, so it doesn't play. As for conversion when you transfer the video, maybe Zune just flagged one audio channel for transfer also.

So its not just a WP7 issue, its more of an incompatible codec issue then? What software did you use to convert? If its Handbrake, you should be able to manipulate the audio codec.

If the video is H264, try pairing the audio with AAC, see if that works.

Want to ask other WP7 users here.. I'm currently using the Mozart with Digi Smart plan. I dunno why, but when I'm using the data connection only, I can't open any youtube videos. However, normal surfing seems to be fine. I tried this with several youtube apps available in the marketplace.

But if I connect to any wireless networks, youtube runs fine. Can anybody help me solve this problem?

QUOTE(hagiri_11 @ Apr 6 2011, 08:56 PM)
Not loading slow, cannot open the video at all. The error is something like " Clip is unavailable at the moment, please try again later". But if I switch to wireless, immediately I can load the vid.
*
I don't know about DiGi or Maxis, but under Celcom, I could use either the HTC Youtube software or the browser mobile youtube software to watch. Yes, sometimes the error does pop up, especially if signal strength not so strong, but under Celcom, a refresh does the trick.

hey guys, forgive for my ignorance as I didn't go through the whole thread, I've thinking to get WP7 this year, perhaps I'll go for a Mozart or HD7, mostly Mozart, screen size fits me well.

The problem is, I read around the Internet (Engadget article, comments and youtube) about this WP7, mostly all are good reviews and some other minor flaws.

I felt that the OS is not mature enough with some lack of feature but I do love the UI a lot! I'm a minimalist freak myself. xD

So, should I get this one or wait further?
*
The simple answer to your question is this :- You want an phone that can do apps or you want an apps gadget that can do phone?

I have been using a lost of phones, and up until today, the Wp7 UI is the best there is. Period. Logically thought out, with its own philosophy of doing things, it is the best at social networking management, contacts management, messaging, call management. Everyone else seems to be in a rush to copy the Iphone that in the process they came up with Ui's that looked either like a hodgepodge of ideas, or a badly misconceived attempts by a bunch of engineers trying to make a UI.

That said, for a version 1.0 OS (They started from scratch), it is stable, fast, and have none of the feature bloats that are now permeating the other phones. Because of that though, they are missing a lot of killer features, like internet tethering, bluetooth file sending etc.

But if you want a phone that can do facebook, sms, email, calls very well, plus play ninja in your spare time, you could do no wrong with WP7 phones. Just avoid the Samsungs.. blush.gif

My mozart battery cannot last me for a morning. A full charge before bed and till tomorrow 1pm the battery just go empty even i just use wifi for 15 minutes.

ANy Sifu here experience the same problem? I read the web mostly happen on HTC mozart.

It's a combination of anemic battery and s-lcd screen, plus if you have push email on, that is about right on the power usage.

My optimus runs way longer than that.

I think there is a serious need now for most shops and dealers to clear the Mozart stocks before announcements of the new Mango phones. A lot of Mozart are going on offer, so just watch out if you want to buy one.

One a side note, anyone knows anyone who wants to sell off their Omnia 7?
