Ipad2 going to be on sale in Singapore next month onwards. I wonder if a price war will start soon in garage sale.

Guys,

Before I plunge myself with an Ipad2 purchase, I wanna ask what kind of video codec and format are supported on Ipad2.

1. I read that WMV and AVI not gonna play but is there 3rd party software or will JB enable them to playback these since the GPU is capable of doing so?

2. Capable of playing HD and FHD file in MKV container?

Thanks in advance

Generally videos/movies on apple format works well. Other formats using third party viewer apps the performance varies from good to bad depending on video file . If you wish to have a good viewing experience it is still best to convert to apple format. Just use handbrake a free software to convert
Thats my problem. 90% of what I had is not in Apple format. I saw Air Video demo and it seem pretty good. However, I would need a PC therefore cant use it on the go.

There are a lot of 3rd party players out there, among them I recommend AVPlayerHD..
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/avplayerhd/id407976815?mt=8

Its the first out there that support new iPad2 Dual-core power so you can play HD video more smoothly.
I haven't try AVPlayerHD yet but I have AVPlayer for iPhone and it is the best so far from VLC, OPlayer.. etc.

Yes it's not free, but imo its worth it that it saves the time I need to convert my video (95% in other formats) for iPhone/iPad.

From the user testimonial there, still can see people complaining. The problem here is Apple reluctant to share the API for GPU video acceleration.

Just keep in mind VLC is no longer available from the App store, only if you had it before it was removed. Might want to try the other software recommended.

Yeah, was looking at Air Video right now...

Just activated my Ipad2 and extremely satisfied with the speed of this thing. Definitely will tether to my HTC Legend instead of using my phone to surf. Bought a white 32GB wifi version.

then your phone will faster die lor ?  tongue.gif
tethering wont heat up phone faster and drain battery meh? tongue.gif

Well, I thought of buying 3G version but seeing everyone opting for wifi, I went with wifi instead. I will be using it primarily at home, office, in-law. Tethering will be only at in-law so shouldn't be a problem. Besides I also have a Nokia C7, courtesy of Nokia Ranger programme which I mainly used for gps and tethering.

Btw, why does the stock Facebook app look so small? Or have to resort to third party app for facebook?

It's 1 year warranty started from the day you activated your iPad, since you activate yours at 28th April 2011+364 days will be on the 27th April 2012.

Dont fret. Apple has their own tracking system. I bought a old stock Time Capsule from their reseller before and when I check, it only left 6months warranty. An email to Apple + a scanned copy of your proof of purchase and they will update it accordingly.

I wonder why can't I connect my iPad to iTunes?

It's connected and showing "Not Charging" and there's an iPad Autorun window coming up after I connected to laptop?
What should I do?
*
Windows xp? I had this problem with xp whereby iTunes would not install correctly. Keep giving me error when I connect it for the first time.

Added on April 30, 2011, 11:47 amBtw, is iPad2 having gorilla glass or just normal glass with better scratch resistant? Just unwrapped it from the cover, start to feel the smoothness of the surface and how much better it look. Pretty surprise by how it handled glare. There is glare but does not affect the readability too much to be a nuisance.

For me i dont like the white colour , i felt black is definitely better than white. The white frame doesnt looks great. Well people tend to buy white because it was new and fresh... ? biggrin.gif , Anyway its own preference and the ownership is just merely 1 year from now what tongue.gif
*
I was going to buy black until the moment I try the demo unit. Apple has always been about white, so last minute change to white. I can buy black tablet from any manufacturer but whenever people see white, usually Apple comes first to their mind, even without looking at the logo.

The other thing most ppl dont know is that GPS actually works even on the wifi-only version of iPad if you use iPhone 4 Personal Hotspot feature. Its not using the old cell tower triangulation method but actually sharing and utilizing the actual GPS chip from iPhone itself. You can try doing the GPS tracking while driving using the wifi-only iPad after tethered with iPhone. Only works with iPhone 4 though. That's the reason I bought the wifi-only iPad smile.gif

Too much unknown about Google Maps. Even on my office pc with streamyx, it manage to locate me. How it works? When I connect my ipad2 to my office wifi, again it manage to locate.

oh, that from Apple WIFI databases, not from GPS chip. try google up Apple WIFI databases and the recent privacy controversy

I dont really get what you are trying to explain.

There are no hotspot in my area. Im also not using it with my Android phone to tether, so tower triangulation is also out. Just streamyx... TM also gives exchange detail to Google?

Added on May 4, 2011, 11:07 pmI just realised that using iTunes allows multiple downloads all at once.. gosh, wasted so much time waiting for it to download via iPad. Should have asked here earlier.
