if i hack kies and upgrade from jp6 to jpx will it affect anything?

erm be4 rooting i need to have a working download and recovery right?

when i open download mode it says Downloading, do not close target

but when i try recovery all i see is a triangle with the android.. no words or anything

does that mean i dont have recovery mode?
