I think proton specifically wants to rebadge the lancer because lancer is still using timing belt, same as all proton's cars.

I see there's a belt running from the engine to (the drive train perhaps), somewhere below the engine. It's at the left side of the engine, you can see it clearly. If that's not a timing belt..

Belts are lighter than chains and thus are less parasitic, they're also lighter, meaning pick up and response is better.

Don't be such a cheap arse, buy something like a Gates belt.

TS, Proton promises Mitsubishi that they wont touch the engine part, so therefore its using timing chain, another thing is, u cant see the timing chain coz its located inside & its covered, the belt u saw at the engine part is NOT a timing belt

The term 'aircond belt' that is generally used is referring to what should be known as 'drive belt'.
The drive belt driven by the engine is used to drive accesories namely the aircond compressor, water pump, power steering pump, alternator etc.
It may also be call 'V-belt' as the crossection of the belt resembles 'V'..

If timing belt putus, your engine will not operate and on some engines there will be damage to the valves and piston. Expensive liao.. requiring an overhaul and may run into thousands of ringgit.
Drive belt putus depends lah. Some engine got one single belt driving ALL accessories. Some got two or three belts.
If you see cracks on the belts, time for a change already! tongue.gif

use timing belt or timing chain also need to service.

oil seal also got to change. chain or belt tensioner also got to change. You only save the belt cost around rm120++ for timing chain user
