Hi people.

Appreciate your help for some info. Anyone know if there is specifically "Mr DIY" shop near your place.
For those who do not know, Mr DIY is a hardware shop that carries mostly items made from china at very cheap price.
Mr DIY is somekind of chain outlet selling hardware and household items.

I have identified 4 outlets but would like to know if there is more out there. Just feel like going to a new Mr DIY outlet today :-)

Mr DIY, are their prices cheaper than ACEHardware on average?

There's one in Endah Parade, Sri Petaling (Carrefour).

Ace is not cheap and Mr DIY..You can buy and sell it in Garage sales at market value and yet still making profit.

i have to agree with stimix.

ace hardware have loads more collection and choices that range from high quality to low quality.

Unless I am looking for really high quality tools and items, I'll just get my stuff from Mr DIY.
Else, I'll go to Jalan Pasar or one DIY shop in Centrepoint BU.

Nowadays I don't go to ACE hardware anymore unless I can't find the things I need from my usual spots.


Anyway, thanks to all who has pointed out Mr DIY locations. I have edited the 1st post and put your nick beside your contribution.

Funny thing, of all the places that I have looked for a wood mah jong table with cloth carpeted surface but could not locate one till recently at Mr DIY in Axis Atrium. Cool.....

I bought a few containers of turpentine and it turns out to be more expensive than ordinary hardware shop by about RM2.
I spray on the ceiling to fend off mouse.

Don't buy those locally produced products there. You can get cheaper sometime elsewhere..MR DIY is famous fo0r cheap imported China made products & not locally made.

but someone who really appreciate a shop that provides really reasonable materials/tools/resource to make experiments more doable and cheap. sometimes I find that I would not want to spend a lot just to try out until I am sure the thing that i am working on is worth the money and effort. so I use cheap stuff first before I spend more making a higher quality one.

anyway, thanks for your contribution. i have added yours and the other people who have posted in this thread since my last update.

I just reached KK Sabah and looking for similar shop like Mr DIY. Anyone can help to recommend? I need to get some cheap power tools and hardware.

It becomes more like a cheap china plastic selling shop rather then a real diy hardware shop, I rather pay more to visit Ace hardware to get really rare diy tools

Which Mr. Diy shop in KL has the biggest store size? I haven't been to the ones in Pudu Plaza, Wangsa Maju or Cheras areas. I been to Aeon Setiawangsa and Pandan Kapital which I think is quite big.

If i'm looking for some particular item and it is not available (out of stock) at the branch near to me, where is the most likely place i might find it?

p.s. specifically i'm looking for 12mm grommets/eyelets for the Hotak grommet plier..

Quality of tools not that good. I bought test pen screwdriver, turn screw the pen turn with me.

Maybe you got a bad batch?
My test pen from mr DIY works fine for screwing 3 pin plug occasionally.
Btw I don't expect too heavy duty use with Mr DIY thing.

Test pen is not a screw driver. It is not designed to drive screws in non grooved holes. It can only tighten screws. Thats why the plastic body part breaks when you apply hard torque on it. I should know because i used Stanley & Philips one that cost just a few dollars more with same problem. Buying a dedicated screw driver without test pen feature is more reliable to drive screws hard into mount.
