Dear pros and bros here,

I intended to go for android, as symbian was such a let off for me after being its supporter for almost 8 years.

I have few noob questions, kindly help if you have some extra time.

1. Does android phones support offline GPS ? Just like Garmin XT in Symbian.

2. Root = flash custom firmware ? or just a hack that enable much more options.

3. Can i root any version of os to the latest ? Or it depends on phone model ?

4. Go for mid end or high end for first timer ?

5. HTC/Samsung ?

Thanks !

I'll try my best to answer your questions....

1. Yes but only Papago at the moment or you can purchase Asus Garmin phone.
2. Root and Flash is different thing in Android. Root can be done in stock firmware and custom firmwares are already rooted. Root is to have superuser access to android os which mean more options to tweak and hack.
3. You can root EVERY firmware and phone....
4. Depends on your budget. You can get high end phone at mid price also.
5. Go for a test drive. There is no super smartphone at the moment.

1.YA.The most popular is Papago. Garmin XT was not able to support at the moment. And some others offline gps. Please search for GPS thread.

2.Root is not equal to flash custom firmware.
Root can let u go to Superuser permission, allow u to take control of your phone. Some of the function is root needed.

3.U can root your's version but not root to any latest OS.u can flash to any latest version.some of the leak firmware can be use as well but on your own risk.
4.Depend on ur budget.

5.Depend on u.Pros and Cons for both phone.
Correct me if anything wrong.thx
