After waiting for several months, Rosen finally offered me the job as a Maintenance Engineer. I know that this job won't have to go to offshore unless needed too.
Follow ups were made and thankfully, it bears fruit. Now my question is, what about that medical examination/checkup? Normal like any others or any special thing? |

QUOTE(lngck @ Mar 18 2011, 10:28 AM) I didn't ask a lot because I have no experience in OnG. But suffice to say, it is enough for me. If I am not mistaken, they are doing servicing of pipelines and such. You might want to try to browse/surf their website. |

QUOTE(carloz28 @ Mar 18 2011, 10:45 AM) It's normal. Some of the SLB successful candidates were left waiting for 6 months let alone 4 days. So the asnwer is YES, companies do left candidates hanging in bated breath just like that. Dude, what about medical examination of a future employee? I mean, the medical checkup, what it is like?My advice to you is, stop waiting on them to tell you the status of your application. Your application are probably in KIV or in the process right now. You can probably call up the lady who phoned you but DON'T pester the HR every 4 weeks or so to ask for your status. Oilfield business is seasonal, contract based and when they are in dire need of human resources they will ring you up. Good luck. |

QUOTE(ivanau88 @ Mar 21 2011, 11:47 PM) I am graduating as a mechanical engineer and I am looking forward in involving myself in the ong industry. Go and try big companies as well. No harm there. First of all, what are your priorities? Time or Money? In O&G, you can only choose either one. Actually, in life as well, IMO.What types of position should I be looking on? I am looking for some medium sized company as I am still a fresh graduate and no point going to the big companies. Piping?Drilling?Project Management? I am thinking about drilling first then focus on management. Is that possible? Any company to recommend me? |

QUOTE(ivanau88 @ Mar 22 2011, 09:57 PM) hey hey, din expect to see you here. For choice 1, if you can speak English fluently and your pointer is somewhere above 2.7, then chances might be there. Do not worry about experience, they will look for your confidence level and positive attitude. Experience will be a secondary thing. They will provide you with all the trainings. My elder brother is in one of these BIG players of O&G. I witnessed his progress.Apart from time and money, I think there is another thing. Potential. Fresh grads like me do not have any solid working experience except from my internship exp. I guess there are only 2 choices for me. Choice 1. Try hard in getting a big cooperation and work hard inside hoping to be promoted asap. or Choice 2 Op for medium size cooperation. Learn and work hard for the first few years then jump into big cooperation based on your years of working exp and achievements. Which I believe its a more better way than working for big cooperation at first. My opinion, to get into the big cooperation, we must have years of working exp and achievement ( which I don't have) or super duper high CGPA ( which I do not have either ( I am only at the border of lower-Upper second class). I am going to op for choice 2. Choose a company with good potential. Learn more and work for few years then op for money. Am I right? Just my 2cents then Choice 2, it will be on job training. You could always opted for this as well. When you have enough experience(approx 3-5 years) you could always jump onto a bigger/better company. Most of my friends that are in this industry went for this option. Some of them even jumped onto better offers/companies after 2-3 years working with a small local companies. 6 months into O&G, not that I want to jump to a bigger company, but is it really a good time to jump?
I am content with my work(you can discount the office politics) but I can't see my position beyond 3 years. Planned to stay, minimum 5 years in the company, is it worth it? BTW, I'm in pigging. As of now, I'm one of the Maintenance Eng, and there's an opening in Offshore dept(not that my dept has no chance going offshore, but not as frequent). I do enjoy my work and still learning a lot of things which is very very interesting to me. One of the downside is, there's no on-site mentoring. I have to do my own work and study about work myself. I am not complaining but at times I do think mentoring would do me good. Not hoping for 'class' type mentoring but a session of Q&A would help a lot. The company is about to send me overseas for training. Every position have tiers/levels of specialty. Back to the Offshore dept, I would love to join them as I do think that I'll gain a lot experience on working at site as well as good money(this is secondary to me). Do you guys think that it'll be good for me to apply for that vacant spot in Offshore dept or just stay as what I am now? This post has been edited by boxsystem: Oct 12 2011, 10:14 AM |

Guys, how do you update your resume? Do you list the projects that you've involved been into the achievements? After all these years, I still suck in writing resumes.
