Oil & Gas will run out in 10-20 years. But then we're gonna have Nuclear power plants so it's not that bad for you guys, can easily switch to Nuke plants.

if it were true, do you seriously think the some of the biggest, most profitable companies in the world are just gonna lie on their backs and do nothing about it?
if there was even a hint of oil drying up in the next 50 years, you can bet ExxonMobil, Shell, Petronas and the like would begin to diversify their businesses like crazy. and watever business they choose to go into, you can bet they'll end up being a major player because they have the resources to do so.

Guys... Hows the prospect and future for O&G sales line? As in working in the vendor company such as cameron, honeywell and so on? Which is better, sales or technical part in term of future prospect and the pay of coz.. I heard from a frien of mine, those in the sales line stand a better chance to be promoted to the company top management (very handsome pay) hmm.gif I am still in the midst of opting to apply for technical job or sales in O&G.

p/s: Currently doing sales in construction field.

notworthy.gif Plz enlighten me TQ

ANYONE CAN HELP TO CLARIFY THE ABOVE STATEMENT? PLZ:rolleyes:

hi, can u help me , i'm freshie , on the electrical side, wat course or certificate is available for me to help get into o&g ?  tongue.gif

if you want to stick to electrical, i dont think you have many options. FYI, i studied electrical too for my degree. the only options i got in o&g for electrical were: maintenance, instrumentation and control. dont know of any certs for electrical in o&g, maybe others can help you on this.

i got myself ISO 9001 and Internal Audit certs so that helped me land a job as a quality engineer.

thx for ur reply . i assume the position u mentioned here is all on-field and off-shore related , right ? as i heard , high pay is because of the allowance ppl get when going for off-shore tongue.gif

or should i ask , can the on-desk job , like doing the detail electrical design for o&g, those kind of things .... stil able to get high pay ?

i now working for a construction m&e consultancy , is there any position related to the exp i have ?

it all depends on which company you join bro. if u get big bucks company, u get big bucks pay. if u get cheapskate company, u get cheapskate pay.
as far as i can see, the oil n gas industry is losing its shine. the recent instability of oil price and availability of cheap labour has caused pay to become lower for newbies. only the old guys with lots of experience still can demand crazy high pay.

i do agree, crazy money comes with exp. but the true is that, even the "lowest" pay for freshie in o&g, is stil one of the "highest" pay for freshie compared to other industrial ....

Bro... tell me more on your cert. about becoming quality engineer... currently stuck in the same situation like you.. i'm electrical n electronic eng. now struggling trying to land a proper career in oil and gas.. currently doing project management in 0&G company. but local company.. i'm more like a window person between client and execute work and coordinate sub-con doing the specialize work...

in the end, i learn shit... just surface knowledge... and more unfortunate, work at KAFT... near to KL.. meaning no allowance.. damn it.. basic pay only... sucks..

i can't land any job in electrical maintenance.. never learn instrumentation and control too.. so people wont hired me for that to...

basically i'm struggling... sad.gif sad.gif icon_question.gif

need all the sifu help in suggesting what sould i do.. i look around until thinking taking inspection courses... basically anything just so that in the end, i know my career path will lead me to become a specialist engineer..

rite now, it's still a blurry path... i rather suffer to learn now then later when old.

owh.. just to share info with you guys.... in my office, there's a guy used to earn $25k a month... but now less then $10k... so basically, life doesn't go as u plan... unsure.gif

it's suitable for anyone who thinks they are suitable... not whether ur female or male or even bapuk...

O&G is so wide and diverse industry....

you just need to know where to land urself and what type of work u want to do...

but in the end, it's up to the company which hired you... because they will groom you..

if you go to O&G company and hire you as a receptionist, hey, they groom you becoming a receptionist.. tongue.gif

Agree with you that ONG wont dry up next 50 years, but difersify is happening already. Petronas for example, is pushing really hard on unconventional resources (coal bed methane, shale gas, etc.) Just look at their CBM involvement in Australia.
Shell were also starting to involve with CBM, as well as exxon (Aussie and Indon).
