QUOTE(clon12 @ Jan 27 2012, 11:09 PM) One question guys... does an external UK degree affect my ong career? Is it better to have a local cert or an external UK cert? The origin of your cert has nothing to do with securing a job in OnG, because ur cert cant speak itself about the quality of you. At the end of the day, it's YOU who need to IMPRESS the interviewer to give you the job. The First 5 minutes of the interview will determine whether a interviewer wants to hire you or not, and they only use the rest of the time to justify their decisions. If you were unable to IMPRESS interviewers at the first 5 minutes.....sorry pal....you're out of the game. QUOTE(clon12 @ Jan 31 2012, 11:40 PM) How did your contacts went through UTM? SPM>STPM>Degree? Tends to lean to an advantage side if the uni i study in is accredited by bem straight right? But as I know as long as you study 4 years, you are qualified to join bem. you want lean to an advantage side? get Petroleum engineering in UTM/UTP and get first class. Some of my friend in PE(UTM) already booked by Schlumberger/Halliburton/Shell/MMC Oil & Gas/Cameron before they graduate during Oil &Gas Career Fair in UTM, Nowadays, Shipping Companies from Singapore also chips in Oil & Gas Career Fair in UTM, making Career fair in UTM more happening. just my 2 cents.

QUOTE(hajime86 @ Feb 2 2012, 09:16 AM) True true, probably give it a last try, or maybe just drop it all together. As year pass by, with more working experience and knowledge, hope for the best. Just I have a slight infatuation with Shell, maybe just for own personal preferences. Been to Miri before, and felt like I want to settle down there for good Besides, Shell is very attractive too, don't you agree? Yeah, totally agree with that. So many applicants and definately Shell is looking for the best they can find. I'm really glad to be given an opportunity even for phone interview, but in the end, I was not successful. so you prefer working in miri rather than AUS ? y? if you'd care tell me the reasons? since both places is far away from your hometown judging from your previous comments.

QUOTE(hajime86 @ Feb 2 2012, 12:23 PM) If its three years ago, yes I am looking forward to working in Miri, when I first graduated. Reasons given would be due to personal reasons and attractive job opportunities there. But of course its hard to land a job as well. Not forget to mention that I am not from any engineering background, only armed with a degree in Geology... Thinking of joining some companies that require geologist, field geologist, or maybe geophysicist. Personal preferences would be, Miri seems a lot like my hometown, small, cosy, friendly people and many more! Similar to Ipoh~ . Made a choice and hence started my career in O&G in Aus. well, i believe every ppl live up what they want, for me, given a choice between miri and AUS, i chose the latter haha. and i believe AUS OnG industry offer more promising future, if you wont mind, pull me some strings in AUS. haha. What qualities u believed u have to stand out from the crowd? u have to ask urself that question.

QUOTE(lovelyduckling @ Feb 16 2012, 11:43 PM) Okay, I suppose that's workable (although I prefer face-to-face interview huhu). Thanks Any other suggestions/ ideas from others? well, my point is, you should call the company to check how many interview it takes to secure the job. if it's only ONE interview, and it's a good company, and u love the job description, just buy a tic and fly over there (postponed to the date where you can afford the plane fare). if there's 2 interviews it takes, i think you should tell them to have phone interview first then f2f interview. judging from you previous comments, i believed you are from East Malaysia.

QUOTE(azraeil @ Feb 18 2012, 03:10 PM) Once you reached 5 years, then you're marketable to a lot of companies (not necessarily the big operators) but basically you will start having options. Once you get to 7 years (late 20's early 30's) then some big overseas operators will start looking at you with interest. You will get some opportunity of being an expats in the middle east/Australia etc. Once you break 10 years, you are extremely marketable. Once you reached 15, people call you (headhunters etc) and you basically just need to tell them what you want in terms of Salary and Benefits But you cannot coast when you are trying to get experience. Get involved in as many projects as you can handle during the first 5 years. Tell your boss that you are willing to take difficult projects and you will deliver and you should be able to get the experience you need. Points taken. Sir.

QUOTE(azraeil @ Feb 20 2012, 11:11 PM) If you are an undergrad doing PE in UTM or UTP, the companies will come looking for you. Yea, That's true, I can say 80% of my Petroleum Engineering Fac-mates were either reserved by Shell, Petronas, Halliburton, Schlumberger, Weatherford in their final year of undergraduate studies, provided they have the convincing results as back support. Mechanical Engineering (ME) friends (50%) during my batch.

QUOTE(ohsome @ Feb 21 2012, 10:59 PM) Thanks for your advice! Besides the major operators, is there any other smaller-sized company who is willing to invest on Chemical Engineering graduates to transform them into Reservoir Engineers? However I believe that the competition is so tight, that I would have to grab whatever offer I am getting by the time I graduate.. One of my coursemate (chem eng background) was working with Talisman as Junior Reservoir Engineer 1 yrs ago. She is the Talisman Scholar.

QUOTE(spawn89 @ Mar 5 2012, 10:59 AM) Dear all, I just wanna ask, if you look at StarJob last Saturday, there will be walk-in interview for various position especially engineer (Keppel, SG Company) at Times Square. I have 2 questions: 1) Is it a good exposure before I go to Oil and Gas since it involves ship fabrication? 2) It says preferably 2 years experience, but I only have 8month internship experience. So should I try? Seniors please help me. 1) Which part of Oil & Gas are you interested? you have to be more specific. 2) There's no harm trying, they prefer mechanical actually.

QUOTE(spawn89 @ Mar 5 2012, 07:30 PM) 1. I prefer to go into construction, which involves pipeline and so on. 2. Im from civil engineering background. yeah, Keppel is your target then, the engineers (if DESIGN engineer diff job scope)position they posted in job ad is actually more to Project engineer. Keppel builds ships, jack up rigs, etc, so once they get the order, u have to come out with the engineering drawings, manpower deployment, and u need to chase the workers like hell in order to get the jobs done on time on budget. in contingency times which is most of the time, you might sacrifies lunchtime, dinner, sleep,OT working until midnight, then the next day u have to clock in at 8 am. however, you will learn a lot , learn to take shit from boss, take things in pressure. benefitwise, i think it's very good as i have keppel friends (engineers) who received 10 months bonus last yr. just my 2 cents. i had interview with them before too. so the above is basically what they told me. on top of that, they do take freshie, they are in need of civil, mech freshie,
