Gyro while drilling (GWD) is used when we are drilling with magnetic interference where ordinary MWD tools cannot give an accurate azimuth reading. Magnetic interference simply means you are drilling near any existing wells or "fish" in hole.
*
oh yeah. totally forgot about the magnetic interference smile.gif thanks for the info though!

Yup, even Shell has its gruelling interveiws which will leave many excellent students also dumbstrucked...hmm, i guess to get a job at these companies is sometimes like betting on a lottery, no 100 % guarantees although you may have perfect cgpa, top varisty coco award, or whatever top award u can think of and u had achieved, luck plays tht 1 % vital important part of it.=)
*
yes. u can say that too. luck plays a big role on getting a job too :-)

well, i believe every ppl live up what they want, for me, given a choice between miri and AUS, i chose the latter haha. and i believe AUS OnG industry offer more promising future, if you wont mind, pull me some strings in AUS. haha.
*
That's correct bro. The options were obvious hence I've chosen Aus that time.
O&G in Aus is strong indeed, but personally I feel that mining industry in Aus is more attractive tongue.gif

I'm still quite new in the industry, hope to build up more network in the future. We shall keep in touch then biggrin.gif

QUOTE(hj.pet @ Feb 2 2012, 01:46 PM)
would u mind to share for what company do u work rite now? i assume u r working as a geologist? damn, geology was one of the hardest subject for me but still it's one of the fundamental of petroleum engineering.
*
I'm a geophysicist, working in a seismic processing department.
We deal with a lot of processing work for the O&G industry. WesternGeco, PGS, CGGV and Fugro Jason fsi, offered similar services like the company I work with.

Though my tertiary education is Geology, but what I'm doing now, is more related to geology+physics.
Petroleum geology was one of my majors and it was indeed interesting. Not forget to mention other subjects like stratigraphy, structural geology, and sedimentology.
It should be fun for you bro =)

QUOTE(neo_sharky @ Feb 2 2012, 11:09 PM)
yes. u should start applying for a job now. for highest qualification, u can put your previous semester's result or cgpa. petronas online application was quite okay for me. wait tillu see Shell online application. abit haywire biggrin.gif
*
Yeah, Shell online application is a bit too "detailed", asking lots of questions. I remembered I put 10, when the question is asking "How attractive Shell is to you as an employer?" biggrin.gif

I am in a dilema between 2 jobs. The current one is in the energy distribution industy. And my new job offer from Ranhill in projects. Here are the things that are keeping me awake these days. I am 36 this year.

lemme know what you guys think. OK?
*
my advise is.. talk with your current superior, request to increase your salary at RM8,000 as current market of yourself is RM9k..

your current annual income: RM 6300 x 12 = RM 75600 plus bonus RM25200 = RM 100,800.00

ranhill= RM 9000 x12 = RM 108,000 plus bonus RM 4500 = RM 112,500.00

RM 11,700.00 diff.. do you think worth it?

Hi, I'm a third year PE UTM student!
Currently I am seeking for internship placement in oil & gas company, I hope can find internship at Indonesia.
Hopefully it comes true! But no action taken yet so far.. >.<
Don't really know how to start, well, have been doing survey and googling recently though. =S
Wish can work at Jakarta but Kalimantan might have more opportunities, I suppose?

I wanna challenge myself and try something new.

It will be difficult for you to get an internship in another country.

This thread is more than 2600 post, should be v3 already.

Petroleum Engineering. The subsea people if they are installing some subsea equipment will need to know the pressure of the reservoir, the type of hydrocarbons that are being produce etc etc ... how much gas is in the oil, is there any water coming up in the system etc
