if someone have no diploma or bachelor, only have spm..can he work on offshore? If yes..where can he find the vacancy?

Well, there are positions for General Workers and such but you need to apply to contractors/sub-contractors. I would recommend you to take welding course. Welders get higher pay as compared to General Workers - maybe RM25/hour as compared to RM8-RM15 for General Workers.

so you prefer working in miri rather than AUS ? y? if you'd care tell me the reasons? since both places is far away from your hometown judging from your previous comments.

If its three years ago, yes I am looking forward to working in Miri, when I first graduated.
Reasons given would be due to personal reasons and attractive job opportunities there.

But of course its hard to land a job as well.
Not forget to mention that I am not from any engineering background, only armed with a degree in Geology...
Thinking of joining some companies that require geologist, field geologist, or maybe geophysicist.

Personal preferences would be, Miri seems a lot like my hometown, small, cosy, friendly people and many more!
Similar to Ipoh~ biggrin.gif .

Made a choice and hence started my career in O&G in Aus.

Sounds like someone from Maintenance and Integrity Execution. It's basically telling technicians how to execute maintenance work, identify when materials can be procured, telling maintenance scheduling teams how long the execution work will take, etc. prospect I don't know.

as i posted before,

mwd tools are basically installed as the bha at the drill bit. it measures either azimuth or inclination of the drilled well or the mechanics information such as drill bit rpm, temp, wob, etc

where azimuth or inclination can be measured using installed gyroscope at the bha (bottomhole assembly at the drill bit)

yeah heriot watt is one of the best pet eng school available. but then, if u wanna go for the best available pet eng school, try united states universities such as csm, texas a&m, stanford uni, uni of texas at austin coz these universities are known worldwide for their pet eng program.
*
Gyro while drilling (GWD) is used when we are drilling with magnetic interference where ordinary MWD tools cannot give an accurate azimuth reading. Magnetic interference simply means you are drilling near any existing wells or "fish" in hole.

Yup, even Shell has its gruelling interveiws which will leave many excellent students also dumbstrucked...hmm, i guess to get a job at these companies is sometimes like betting on a lottery, no 100 % guarantees although you may have perfect cgpa, top varisty coco award, or whatever top award u can think of and u had achieved, luck plays tht 1 % vital important part of it.=)

Most of the big names have multiple filtering stages when it comes to taking freshies.
Just apply to as many places as possible and keep your options open.

I am in a dilema between 2 jobs. The current one is in the energy distribution industy. And my new job offer from Ranhill in projects. Here are the things that are keeping me awake these days. I am 36 this year.

Current Job. Energy distribution industry

Experience: 9 + years.
Salary: 6300 per month (they just promote me)
Bonus: average is 6 mnths ( I got 8 last year)
Scope: Engineering Design and operations support.
Tenure: Permanent

I love this job. Made lots of friends, overall the morale is quite high. But the increament from year to year is fixed at 6%-7%. And promotion is few and takes a long time as engineers is expected to be in his grade for 5-6 years. I got above average almost in alternating years, so I know I performed but they still promoting me till the very last possible years. Also I am not confident that this high average bonus will last indefinitely, it could reduce to 4-5 months in the future.

So I went to an interview with Ranhill WP. And got hired.

Probably Next Job. Oil & Gas consultancy.

Experience: - years.
Salary: 9000 per month
Bonus: 1/2 month
Scope: Engineering Project management & cost control
Tenure: Renewable Contract.

I am leaning toward going into Oil & Gas. Since I wasn't promoted when I went for interview a few months ago, 9K sounded OK at the time. But now both jobs is almost the same in annual salary. The difference would be in my current job, I have to wait 1 year to get that fat bonus.
Friends in RWP are saying there is nothing to worry about being in contract as the market for Engineers in O&G is vast (they are also contract since for several years). Plus the performance efffects increment and upgrading as oppose to my present situation where performace effect bonus & not increment. In the long run perhaps its better financially to be with Ranhill, especially if I got above average appraisal or promoted in the next 2-3 years.

I am kinda hesitant to ask them to revise the salary they are offering. Because I am feeling that I am already pushing my luck here because my current job experience & skills dont match 100% to theirs. I got one foot in Oil&Gas I dont want to ruin it, but I also dont want to make a stupid decision.

lemme know what you guys think. OK?

U're 36 and you will be running out of time to jump n explore. Risks are better taken early in yr career. If your present company is delaying your promotion, to me the company is not worth staying. Being in contract has some benefits, tax for example whistling.gif . No risk no gain.
