hmm Gyrodata, last I called and asked the HR was last year around Nov , and they said only will recruit Vietnamese as they already hired someone from Brunei and Malaysia, but told me that I still can submit my resume only for future reference if they are going to hire Malaysian again. Might be different now though .

seconded that. being unemployed would increase your desire to accept any job offer given that it is related to your field of interest, also if it is offered by big O&G company :-)

How bad is the work at gyro? My friend works there but so far he tells me the pay per work ratio is quite high, cos they basically are paying for your life (need to be on standby all the time).

Don't worry about it much. Before I join my current job, I was "unemployed" for 3 months - by choice. It is good to have that "pause" in life. Of course, I did a little freelance job during that period. biggrin.gif

What if I tell you 20% of SLB people worldwide left the company annually to start their own farms or start other businesses, would you believe me?

Wow!

One question guys...
does an external UK degree affect my ong career? Is it better to have a local cert or an external UK cert?
*
Like others said, your interview will determine your chance. But your cert will determine whether they will call you for an interview or not. Based on what I've been told, some companies like exxon only accepts certain certs.

For fresh grad, I only look at 4-5 local uni for geoscience. For RE/PE, around 2. For other discipline, never call anyone for interview yet.
Foreign cert can help, especially when it comes for a well known uni (Heriot Watt, Col School of mines, etc). But the results is more important. I always ask potential candidates to submit their full transcript to see if they are excel in the right and important subjects, not like gym class, or theater, or whatever.

But I always wonder, does IT or HR or procument/accountant in ONG pays substantially higher than other industry? Anyone can comment?
Since I thought the subsurface and some critical surface discipline (drillers, FE) paid really well because of limited resource.

I see.. so the cert is really important to be called up for interview? Cause before this i planned to go HELP because they got university of herfortshire cert but then I heard that MMU is more well known for their engineering. A bit stumbled across this two.

it is important only when one wanna join consultant for the accreditation direct admission into graduate member in malaysia. some consultants' job advertisement requests for registered with BEM/IEM Accreditation. pls take note with BEM registration one can go further with Washington Accord.

was 2nd batch ME same as u. opt mmu last time due the accreditation (Uniten not accredited, went to UTP interview [still new the campus that time, some comments from friend's elder sister] & some colleges in my consideration list were not accredited last time except public uni which due to quota, so never dream of that), 1st batch & our 2nd batch were interviewed by EAC interviewers during their assessment/evaluation last time in campus.

So in your opinion, whether it is an external cert or local one doesnt matter in enrolling into ong industry? I am aware of the accrediation... But from what my gf's father told me it doesnt matter in ong as you dont need to be an IR.

does any body know what exactly the LWD/MWD engineer do? what is their job scope?
*
lwd = logging while drilling

logging while drilling is basically a 2 in 1 job where logging is done while the well is drilled. this method is quite famous rite now since it can cut the amount of time needed to do both logging and drilling.

mwd = measurement while drilling

mwd tools are basically installed as the bha at the drill bit. it measures either azimuth or inclination of the drilled well or the mechanics information such as drill bit rpm, temp, wob, etc

SRD Exp #1

SRD Exp #2

SRD Exp #3

some maybe outdated becoz it happened more than 2 yrs back, but its a good reading actually.
