ur pay reflect how much profit u can bring to the company, or how much important are u as an asset to the company. Fresh grad doesnt get much because u are more like a liability than an asset.. that's why fresh grad should not QQ about the pay, then life would be much easier.

True, especially when some of your more senior colleagues have been working in the industry longer than you have been alive laugh.gif .

It can be quite a humbling experience, and I think for freshies it's best to absorb as much as possible, gain some real experience and maybe some notable accomplishments before worrying about salary and benefits. At least that's what I'm doing.

And let's not get into the foreign vs local grads debate, plenty of other threads out there already. But wherever you come from, of course it's important to be able to talk and express yourself properly. Here's one article I read just today :
Verbal arts separate the lions from the lambs

By the way, I know all this because my spouse is with PETRONAS, and I myself am with Exxon.

Hi, thanks for sharing the info about the benefits from these 2 companies.

I'm just curious, would having a spouse who is working in a competing company have any effects on your employment ? Don't some companies ask about the professions of your close family members during the recruitment process ?

Nope. Not a problem. I just have to declare COI (conflict of interest) with the company and they'll assess if it will pose any potential issues in the future. Not such a big deal for me because I am an upstreamer, my spouse is a downstreamer. I'm not involved in oil price forecasting for the company (which is a proprietary matter by the way) or work on contracts, bidding etc so I'm good to go.
Wow that's nice - husband and wife oil and gas tag team haha.
Maybe a possibility of both of you working in the same company in the future ? wink.gif

Yup, even Shell has its gruelling interveiws which will leave many excellent students also dumbstrucked...hmm, i guess to get a job at these companies is sometimes like betting on a lottery, no 100 % guarantees although you may have perfect cgpa, top varisty coco award, or whatever top award u can think of and u had achieved, luck plays tht 1 % vital important part of it.=)

Most of the big names have multiple filtering stages when it comes to taking freshies.
Just apply to as many places as possible and keep your options open.

Hello everyone,

This thread is now more than 2750 posts, way more than the 2500 limit for 1 version.

Maybe some of the senior guys like Azraeil, Carloz28 or Wildchai (or any other regulars) might be interested in creating Oil & Gas Career V3 ? smile.gif
