As you continue to use your phone, certain files are stored in Dalvik Cache for quicker access. Dalvik cache is a program cache area for the program, dalvik. Dalvik is a java based virtual machine -- it's the basis for running your programs (the ones that have the .apk extension). In order to make access times faster (because there's not JIT (just in time) compiler installed by default), the dalvik-cache is the result of dalvik doing a optimization of the running program. Sounds confusing. It's similar to the prefetch files in Windows.

So it'd be better to have it on phone for faster access

My 15 year old small Nokia phone fail me yesterday. I was using it mainly as a phone to take/make calls and is an extension of my Galaxy Tab

So I was looking round for a small Android and decided to buy this
Got it for RM 599 with Mapking included > no freebies except the CSL center offer me free software , music, videos which I did not take up as I already have the software I need

Will be using it as phone, probably some email, browser and checking up newsfeed. It is just a supplementary phone. Rooted it within 5 minutes. Comes with Ecliar 2.1

Will used it thoroughly over next few days and probably will post my impressions. So far after half day use, quite impressive. I have used other Androids - Nexus, HD2, Dell Streak , Galaxy S and I can compare it.

Will try 2.2 rom in a day or two

My first error : " An Error occurred while in flashing your recovery" when I use Rom Manager - any ideas ? I bought this Rom Manager - and it works with my other androids
reset and upgrade to latest version is same. I choose Commtiva Z71 and my phone is rooted

Has been on the 2.2.1 rom SuperBler 4.2 for past 8 hours. I know this is an old rom. I just wanted to get a feel of Froyo vs original 2.1 Eclair. It is also easier to install this from recovery. Some very minor bugs ( freezing for unknown reasons ) not serious - happen twice. Very obvious is this rom blow the original 2.1 out of water. Also I have now moved most of apps to SD card ( except widgets and system utilities ) - got back about 55 MB free space. So far all the stuffs I often use is perfect - Dolphin HD browser, K9 mail, Newsroom, Facebook, TweetDeck, Phone, SMS, GPS ( using Aura ) , camera, sync with Google ( contacts, calendar ) no issues , very smooth
I will probably test the recommended Phantom rom later after a day more with this rom

Right Bro !. I told myself to at least try out the stock rom 2.1 for at least a day to two. However after installing most of my apps - it lags terribly and the phone memory was always alerting low memory. So after 5 hours on it, just couldn't tahan anymore - I flash SuperBler 4.2 : what a difference - it was so much zippier and slick . Is like getting into a 2000 cc car after on a 1000 cc car

Thanks. I noted is due to missed call probably ; couldn't clear it till I reboot. Anyways thanks for the tip - will look it up

Guys : i seem to have lost the ability to go into recoevery or download mode. The first time I did it was easy. I tried many times, it just shows a small message at top in recovery mode but the phone reboot back normally without going into recovery mode. This'd mean I will not be able even to try flash other roms/ I think I did it more than 10 times already - pressing all the 3 buttons hard

I use Rom manger and tried to boot into recovery from the app - same result it just reboot back to normal

Is there any way to solve this. I am still on SuperBler 4.2

I managed to get back into recovery after several resets, taking out battery etc.
I have now restore back from recovery my backup copy of the original Eclair 2.1 ( but noted the splash screen of SuperBler precede it just a second before the original CSL splash screen)
Is it necessary to reflash the stock rom again ?

Will try to do it later - problem is I am using a MAC and the Windows 7 sometimes on it can be very unreliable and misbehave at times !!

Just completed upgrading to Phantom King rev1 ( SkyFish ) . The whole process took about 13 minutes. The first bootup time was quite frighteningly long - thought it was stuck in the never ending honeycomb splash screen.
You guys have been giving such good comments on this rom, will test out fully

Just some immediate impressions on Phantom King v1 rom after just 3 hours on it :

1. Very slick and smooth , at least 2-3 X better than SuperBlear 4.2
2. Noted most apps except widgets install direct to the ext3 partition of my card. In my previous SuperBlear - I have left only about 18 MB free on internal storage and 15 MB on system storage - and this is after I moved most apps to SD card the FAT partition.
The same apps now I recorded internal storage free 73 MB and system storage free 27 MB - Amazing, giving the increased speed and smoothness
In both roms, I remove several built in apps I do not used.
3. So after 3 hours, no freezing issues at all

Call me curious, I just installed CM7 RC2 ( 2.3.3 ) this morning. This build released 9 Mar. Just wanna try Cyanogen as I use to use his roms too on my previous Androids

Dump it after 2 hours. Now back on phantom king v1
Main reasons:
- face several freezes in an hour
- the apps cannot install into ext4 partition. Apps goes mainly into memory even after i select to ext card. Force install of such apps thro settings/applications goes into fat32 partition
- Not so slick versus phantom king v1

At which stage you have error ; please be specific

You mention earlier you want " how do i format hd n do partition? " - what are you asking ?? HD - is what - hard disk ?? Why would you want to format hd ?

first make sure your SD card is formatted - you can use your PC to do it. Infact most SD cards comes preformatted
Just put your SD card in phone. Launch Rom Manager - you find will a menu for partition - choose it and you will be guided accordingly to the sizes you want - suggest 512 MB at least and 128MB memory
You can do all this WITHOUT connecting phone to computer. I think you are connnecting phone to computer

You need internet connection to first download the recovery flash file on the phone itself. When you select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery".
However you can also do it manually - follow post # 2216 : you still need to download and copy to your sd card

You still didn't tell us at what stage you have problem. How to assist you further ?

When you launch rom manger, scroll down you see Utilities - Partition SD card
Actually is straightforward - dunno where are you stuck ?
