I dont know wether this mods already posting before, but cannot find the post la..
so, i posted my mods here if this is right place to do so...

1st, forgive for my english laaa...hehe icon_rolleyes.gif
Note that i will NOT take any responsibility for any accident happen or damage by doing this mods.

i already had 600watt PSU not branded...(3C.T brand)...but only had 1 sata power,
1 fdd power and 4 odd/hdd 12v power...

the problem persist when im start using GPU with additional 6pin power supply which is take
2 unit 12v power supply, and i had to took out 1 of my odd and 1 hdd because no power supply.
currently i had 2 odd, 3 hdd, GPU, hdd cooler and 4 unit 120mm x 120mm casing fan.

i thought, i should use my old 200watt PSU from my old P3 system to put in my current casing.
im using CM elite 430 casing with bottom PSU placing.

item to use:
1. power wire, not sure what size is, using to power up 240v, in three different colour with desire length.
user posted image
2. Relay automotive bosch 5 pin, 12v 30A with socket.
user posted image
3. TOOLS...cutter, screw driver, Soldering iron, heat shrink tube, cable tie...must be...
user posted image
sample only...not mine lol... blush.gif

1st step is, for powering the PSu. Open up PSU housing, using 3 different colour of power wire in desire length...
solder using soldering iron like this...do this step on the both psu 240v power input port. please take note to solder
on the same port...on this step the different colour of wire would help...

power input 240v done, take from 600watt PSU to 200watt 2nd PSU.
user posted image

p/s: you should not do this mods if your PSU had 240v output port (usually on old type PSU). only need
power cable with male/female soket like this...

continue..

now, the 2nd part is to mods relay, so the 2nd PSU will only turn ON if the main PSU is ON by mobo...

let see this diagram of the ATX soket pin...you will see the two pin using
for connected to the relay...(mark as no.14 - PS_ON and no.15 - COM)
user posted image

Pin no.14 ATX socket will be connected to Pin no.30 on the relay as diagram
below. See bottom of relay to find the number of relay pin.

user posted image

Pin no.15 on ATX socket connected to pin no. 87 on the relay.
i just cut the wire of no.14 and 15 at the ATX and connect to relay wire directly like this
user posted image

After that, u need the trigger of 12v for powering the relay from the main ATX on the mobo.
i just loop two wires from there, that was no.12 and 13 on the mobo's ATX...
user posted image
no.12 on the ATX go to no.85 on the relay pin..(refer to relay diagram above)
no.13 on the ATX go to no.86 on the relay pin....solder them all...
user posted image
done...
user posted image

after that, the relay should look like this... sweat.gif

almost done...the relay...you should place this relay in proper...
i have no time to think about it yet...just left the relay like that lol
user posted image

the 2nd PSU...i place it on the bottom free space over my odd rack...tight to get in lol...
user posted image

done, now u can use the 2nd PSU 12v socket to power up you additional fan, hdd etc...
power up the computer and check wether everything is working or not... cool2.gif DONE.
user posted image

my CPU look messy rclxub.gif with no neat cabling management...i should manage my cable
as well...looking for time to do that...plan for cable sleeving next time...adioss... whistling.gif

my PSU max out for 12v is 10A, im using relay 30A...so i think its save for relay...

many ppl do this double PSU, but only trigger by manual swith to ATX socket
no.14 and 15 there...mine is auto trigger using relay...

i do heard my fren do the double PSU long time ago when he used to have
many unit of HDD...no problem so far...running ok on my desktop now..

basically, this mods is safe...

u only make a connection for power, using power cable. if your PSU have input/ouput port for 240v as i mention, no need soldering for 240v power.

then u only dealing with 12v power output...using to activate 12v relay
taken from main ATX PSU power as per diagram...12v only...no harm...

relay is trigger the 2nd PSU by shortage the PS_ON to COM pin at the 2nd
PSU ATX socket...thats all...i dont think this is harmfull...

main PSU running as usual, 2nd PSU running by trigger swith from relay
and got power 240v from direct AC port from main PSU...
when the main PSU swithed off, the relay goes off and the 2nd PSU goes off too...

Added on December 8, 2010, 11:52 ambeside using relay, u can mod the connector by putting wire cable from this green and black to the casing switch.

Like I done before

yep...mr mshjohorean...

i got the basic idea from this method...but instead of 'jumper' manually
that pin, im using relay, triggering from main psu ATX 12v switching...

if i use only 'jumper' like that, my PSU will always ON while my CPU is
off because the 240v power cord is switch ON...this may need you to
OFF the 240v mains power plug...

the idea here is, the 2nd PSU will ONLY ON if the main PSU is ON...
and OFF when the main PSU is OFF...

anyway mr.mshjohorean, u alwez be my sifu's....hehehe

nothing harm...

the output is 12v maa...not 120v...heheh

only use 2nd PSU to powering all the fan and ODD+floppy...

main board, GPU and 1st HDD stay powered by 1st PSU...

This mod works but it's not safe

First, some precautions:
- For anyone who want to connect 240V to another psu, please make sure you're using a correct rating (volt and ampere). You can't cut yellow (+12V) and black wire (0v) from old psu and use it with 240V. What will happen is, you'll get zap even if you're only touching the insulator rubber/plastic/etc.
- Having 240V at 50Hz isn't very friendly with pc due to EMI or RF interference. Try to "route" it far away from any internal circuitry/wiring/board. Or, use shielded cable (which is expensive).

Why it's not safe :
- You increase the chance of something goes wrong. 1 psu might have a certain chance to blow up, 2 psu will likely double it.
- There's no protection from reverse voltage (the current flow backward, coming from other psu inside another psu). Happen when one of the psu faulty (ie: psu output 0v instead 12V, which means the current flow from 12v healthy psu down to 0v in this faulty psu. Component inside faulty psu now stressed with -12v. Or, faulty psu output is 14v instead 12v, now the current will flow backward to the healthy psu. Component in healthy psu now stressed with 12-14=-2v)

What you can expect when psu is fault:
With single psu, you'll only get "poof" once. With double psu without protection, you'll probably get "poof bzzt poof". So, double the psu, double the explosion tongue.gif
The good thing is, you'll need to replace everything anyway, so it doesn't matter how many time its exploded.

The real solution:
- Google diode-or or FET-or application note.
- Problem with diode-or or FET-or: voltage drop across the diode/FET (eg: instead of getting 3.3v you'll get 3.0v, 0.3v loss in diode) .

tl;dr:
It works but there's a few caveat.
One can get away without diode-or if he's only using it to power isolated things like fan (with no rpm feedback, so there's no connection from psu to another psu except the 0v.)
Others like vga,hd, etc isn't isolated (voltage level/signal for data is sourced from that psu, so it'll connected to mobo and to another psu)

im not prefer to moding psu..
just go for vantec psu..
