retina display is pretty much out of the question for a device the size of iPad... retina display refers to having >300 ppi.. which works on a small screen device like iphone 4.. on a 9.7" screen, you need about 2560x1440 (http://members.ping.de/~sven/dpi.html) resolution capable screen to achieve that pixel density.
Imagine the processing power and juice needed to just drive the graphics on that screen... even desktop based cards have a problem when driving graphics at that resolution...
Added on December 6, 2010, 3:27 pmMaybe we'll see retina display on larger devices in 2-3 years time.. but most likely not next year... The cost of manufacturing those screen itself is likely going to be crazy. High resolution screens is already the highest component cost on the BOM list...
u're right but dun forget China is main manufacturer in Ipad production, everything is possible in China..Imagine the processing power and juice needed to just drive the graphics on that screen... even desktop based cards have a problem when driving graphics at that resolution...
