I believe some people just believes ipad is a substitute to laptop. Unfortunately no. If you want a fair fight, compare it with macbook air then.
This Square mobile circuit board sandwich between a glossy touch screen glass and a alu back is just a way for users to surf on the go whenever they want to without the need of firing up and wait for the OS to load everytime. Users can laid on couch, bed etc and any other uneven and stable position yet the device can still work regardless of vibration. The same can be said on galaxy tab. Form factor wise, ipad is more on a e-reader. With its huge real estate, you will find ipad works better on long hours of surfing internet and reading journals. Galaxy S is great for carrying around. with its 7" screen, its good for one hand mobility usage while walking or hanging on your car to make full use of the GPS feature. You have the option of viewing in landscape or portrait. Much more versatile compared to ipad. As for technology, GT out shines with more gizmo under the hood while ipad is encapsuled with great aesthetic design. Day to day torture, I would rank ipad better with its alu back as compared with GT's glossy white plastic. Technology wise, the 3mp camera in GT isn't much to shout out. But for average small shoot out, its adequate where else you can't take any pictures with ipad. Speed, i can't comment much because both are running different OS. You might find ipad an edge despite short of 256ram. I believe the big 7" and the up in pixel count has slightly slowed GT down. Nevertheless, its not a nuisance in daily use. a slight fraction of a wait wouldn't kill off your mood to surf. The mighty flash support will make up of all those loss. Yes, GT has full flash support under froyo and you will enjoy your favorite games without the need of palm grabbing the mouse to move around. Definitely an edge. Now on to the OS. I would crown ipad in this debate as it has more apps to support under its own native resolution. Email comes with preview, and listing. Quite convenient. Even My boss has stopped using his BB because he claim ipad works much faster and viewing pdf no longer needs the pull from the server. Just let it download into the 32gig storage. There's plenty of room to spare. Furthermore, working with fingers is much faster than scrolling through the tiny ball or the touch scroller. GT, I'm not saying it's bad, but originally froyo was designed primary for phones, not for tablets. Its just manufacturers, took a bold step on extending the OS up to the tablets platform. Somewhat just like how XP was when they try to port it into tablets. Apps wise, there are alot of support for GT, but still I wouldn't count all can work within the 7" display as of current time. Its frustrating to see your favourite app still works under the phone's resolution and not fully utilizing the whole screen. I believe, developers are slowly working out upgrades to support the mighty GT. We've seen some famous title making the change, it wouldn't be long the others will follow. From ground up, I still think google will need to redesign a tablet version of gingerbread. Probably increase the finger recognition to more than 5 points? Think that should give a fair fight to ipad, whereby manufacturers will make full use of the feature for their softwares?, games, instruments etc? Price. Currently in US, ipad wins the ticket being sold at a more competitive and affordable price as compared to GT. GT isn't cheap and so far, only a few telco manages to place it under contract but the deal still isn't up to ipads offering. More consumers are veered away to the ipad. I'm not sure how much GT will cost when it hits our shores officially, but I do expect we will experience the same pricing as samsung is pretty bad in managing it's sales in market.
Now my pick.. If I have to pick one today.. I still go with the Ipad. I still find most of my favourite website still prefers to run flash-less, maybe only on the adds (which is why they are such bummer and hog some of your bandwidth). If Google manages to pull off the gingerbread support and more developers have included GT support on the OS, I Will make the shift to andriod. Seriously as of now, I'm just a few mm close on deciding the winner and ipad just wins because of apps support, & we cannot deny that when we buy the digital paperboard out of the box, we would expect most of the apps work on it. I'm giving my thumbs up next year if Google and the rest of the android crew can improve.
p.s Any douche bag who says ipad or GT is a waste of money, you can just stick with your primitive lap or desktop. But if you're much open into the idea on tablets, you might want to look at ctl 2go pad. A windows 7 OS under an ipad replica. The era of star trek is nearing.
