Air stewardess killed in head-on crash

GEORGE TOWN: Air stewardess Ng Sweet Yuin’s plan to spend quality time with her grandmother was cut short by a road accident.

The Malaysia Airlines stewardess, 27, died on the spot after her Perodua MyVi was involved in a head-on collision with a Proton Satria driven by a 22-year-old youth on the Jelutong Expressway at 3.15am yesterday.

The youth, an undergraduate who was back from Australia on his semester break, broke both legs and sustained multiple injuries.

He is currently warded at Penang Hospital.

Ng’s mother Thniah Poh Choo, 52, said her daughter came back from Kuala Lumpur after learning about her grandmother’s operation which was scheduled at a private hospital yesterday.

“She came back on Tuesday. She bought her grandmother a packet of char koay teow on Wednesday night before meeting up with her friends.

“She even applied for leave today (yesterday), hoping to see her grandmother after the operation.

“I do not know how to tell the old lady about Ng’s death,” she said, when met at the Penang Hospital mortuary.

Thniah said her daughter, who had been working as a stewardess for the past two years, had planned to buy a house in Sungai Ara.

Penang police traffic enforcement/operations chief Asst Supt Ahmad Ezzely Razali said a blood sample had been taken from the male driver to determine if he had been intoxicated or high on drugs at that time.

She is the 1 that got tangled in the accident (not the causer of the accident). Bad luck happens but if she were in a better ride.. chances are better to survive.

One point which has not been brought up so far is the lack of road dividers on the Jelutong Highway. I drive this stretch to and from work every day and it disturbs me to see only a 30 cm high kerb separating the two sides. Had there been a divider the girl probably would not even have been touched. Hopefully the dividers will be installed after this accident.

if everything is fated, why bother living. go /wrist  ... coz its "fated" too to end up thinking suicidally and ultimately die.

we got 4 mutuals. apparently a sister in law to one, a hiking buddy to another and porridge cooker for the remaining ones.

i use that road about 3times every week, must be alert at all times, the road is not that even and it's not lighted up properly(no street lights at the side), somemore got a lot of distraction
