To all SGS users, forget about all the mods kernel and lagfixes 2.2 from XDA if you go for stock 2.2.1 XXJPU and you don;t have to worry about lagfixes anymore. Here's my recommendation to all:

1. For the non-technical and tinkering users
Get an ODIN and flash the stock JPU, add your APN and set up your googlemail and you are good to go

2. For average users with a little spare time to tinker
Get Doc XXJPU 3.0.1 and disable lagfix

3. For average tinkering
Get Doc Ultraslim 2.1 and disable lagfix

4. For heavy duty customization and DIY tinkering
Get Insanity 0.10 JPU (this by far the slimmest of all - 87MB only)- I'm using this with own customization, no lagfix, 2276 quadrant

Installation tips:
1. Make sure you can get into BML (2e) - 3 buttons work first. All the above will not wipe your 3 buttons if you already have them but stock XXJPU kernel by Insanity will wipe your CWM off.

Workaround gaining CWM
1. If you are using insanity, copy the CWM recovery.zip to your sdcard and rename it as update.zip
2. Use your 2e to apply update.zip and you will gain temporary access to CWM upon completion of update from sdcard
3. From CWM, you can update whatever else you want (battery mod, kernel or rom)

Personally XXJPU does not require any lagfixes and NON of the existing so called JPU kernels are built from the XXJPU sources. Try not to use the so-called JPU kernel if you are not technically savvy and does not have a spare phone.

GT-I9000 XXJPU
Baseband: I9000XXJPU
Kernel: 2.6.32.9 root@sep-55#1
Build number: Insanity 0.10 JPU
Quadrant: 1276
No lagfix

As I said earlier, DO NOT install the so-called JPU kernel cause ITS NOT. There is no problem whatsoever on the stock version except gallery draining your battery. Remove gallery and replace with something else.

Use stock JPU for testing and then move from there to modded version.

My watsapp oways lag one.. Any of u got any issue?

You should not have any noticeable lag if you apply the lagfix, but if you applied the lagfix, then make sure that logfile is not written on your external SD unless you have a fast external sd.

How to update from SGS Tools?
*
Go to market and search and install sgs tool. BUT you must have root access. What version are you using for your SGS? 2.1 or 2.2?

I tested Doc earlier JPU, like it but hated voodoo and speedmod/SO both crashes with JPU and lagfix performance improvement not so impressive.
Darky's relies heavily on Voodoo so, same story.

If you want everything provided by Samsung, then go with Doc or Darky but use the stock kernel to be safe. If you basic, then go with insanity and then add what is needed as and when you need it.

As for new users, get used to the phone first, upgrade to froyo using KIES and learn about the phone ability. If you linux guys, probably take you a few days to figure out what android is all about and probably come out with your own mod after a week.

Hi. Thx. Can any one teach me to completely uninstall stock gallery?
*
You cannot use normal uninstall for stock app. To uninstall you need to have root access + superuser. Once you have root access, get a root explorer from market and allow r/w to your system folder, and then move the relevant file in /systems/app/gallery.apk to another folder in your SD.
Once you are did that, now download just picture and then move justpicture apk to /systems/app.

This process is the same for the rest of stock apps. If you want to remove internet explorer, move it out from system/app and then put whatever you want in there and it will shown. Same for Launcher Pro, move to system/app and it become your default.

Btw, the easiest root I know of is the Ryan z4mod and z4root. Go http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953 and install in your phone.

what are the main differences between

XXJPU (2.2.1) and DXJPA (2.2)

?

please tell me!

Not many knows since it is not an official release with no change log. What matters is, 2.2.1 is the real froyo update from Samsung, the unreleased version and its 1000 times better than 2.2.

Insanity 0.10 JPU battery is 2% in airplane mode for 6 hours, same as JPO. Let's see how it does during normal working hours.
Network is GSM and WIFI is enable for the day, no lagfix and no lags.

@hardcore and supercurio mentioned to me that it will depend on samsung on the source codes. Looking at the trend, the last release was for JPM and then no more, JPO/JPA was based on JPM as well.
And with JPU as a totally different breed, recompilation of the kernel is impossible, and except configuration tweaking and tuning, nothing major can be improved at the kernel level. So far, none of the existing kernel without filesystem tweaking can beat JPU, JPU kernel is almost perfect, a 50% jump from the JPM-based kernel, not even the mods in XDA can beat that.

Hi guys.
I'm using darky 5.2 with JPU (and voodoo lagfix) (at the moment. everything seems fine with the phone at the moment. Even the GPS works faster than ever before.

Shall I update to k10i as well? I haven't try it on this darky 5.2 JPU yet. not sure whether it brings any benefit to the phone with all of the tweaks that's came with k10i.

Is that advisable to disable voodoo lagfix to save battery? How does it perform when the lagfix disabled?
*
JPU, no need lagfix. already lagfree.
I'm on Insanity JPU, 10.45PM lastnite 100%, now left 72% after 15hrs, how's that? No lagfix.
