1. For the non-technical and tinkering users
Get an ODIN and flash the stock JPU, add your APN and set up your googlemail and you are good to go
2. For average users with a little spare time to tinker
Get Doc XXJPU 3.0.1 and disable lagfix
3. For average tinkering
Get Doc Ultraslim 2.1 and disable lagfix
4. For heavy duty customization and DIY tinkering
Get Insanity 0.10 JPU (this by far the slimmest of all - 87MB only)- I'm using this with own customization, no lagfix, 2276 quadrant
Installation tips:
1. Make sure you can get into BML (2e) - 3 buttons work first. All the above will not wipe your 3 buttons if you already have them but stock XXJPU kernel by Insanity will wipe your CWM off.
Workaround gaining CWM
1. If you are using insanity, copy the CWM recovery.zip to your sdcard and rename it as update.zip
2. Use your 2e to apply update.zip and you will gain temporary access to CWM upon completion of update from sdcard
3. From CWM, you can update whatever else you want (battery mod, kernel or rom)
Personally XXJPU does not require any lagfixes and NON of the existing so called JPU kernels are built from the XXJPU sources. Try not to use the so-called JPU kernel if you are not technically savvy and does not have a spare phone.
