Just wanna ask any sifu around here... icon_question.gif

actually i've just let someone fixed my ps3 for the YLOD, and this is what happen after fixing...

1. the demo games that has downloaded previously can enter but goes into black screen...
2. tried inserting disc into the BD Drive but to no prevail, it took eternity to load the disc...

So i tried almost evrything, format HDD (not working), clean laser ( haven't), recovery menu (haven't as no controller), open the ps3 and try refit the connection between the blu-ray drive ( nothing)...

so if that does't fix the problem, izit because of the laser unit itself or something else?

help is in need...thanks... biggrin.gif

My opinion with you is send to Sony if it is under warranty. Please send to the appropriate Sony channel base on the model of your PS3 ( which country ) I personally own 1 unit of PS3 from Singapore. The system had the same problem - twice.

- First incident happen, brought the unit back to Sony S'pore and the change the Laser module. It works for about 7 months plus.

- Second incident was the same problem, I sent back to Sony S'pore. The have check the system and with my complaints. The replace another unit of PS3 for me after a week.

- ( touch wood and the system work till now so far )

I really understand how you feel and It is really troublesome and it is really disappointing for such an expensive game console for Sony.

How long is ur player been YLOD/Dead?

if warranty is expired.. you can try sending it to a 3rd party repairer.. most probably your GPU is shot.. n ur lens too..

if you keen on having to fix try techtwo enterprise.. their method is more expensive compared than normal reflow/thermal pasting.. but they claim it is 90% permanent fix..

Meaning you bought a totally dead YLOD PS3...?

whats the method of repair for the YLOD? reflow, thermal pasting or Ball Grid Array Reballing...

if the dvd drive fail.. its quite expensive to replace.. so be mindful if you are thinking of repairs..

Yes, reflow...

cost is not the problem... i just nid to know the problem that is it related with changing the lens or something about it...

If there is a display main screen.. but games do not load or using other media cd also the same result.. meaning there is something wrong with the lens.. cost for repair/replacing bout RM200++

what unrealweapon says you should at least consider.. singapore set is abit cheaper.. reflow can only do it once only.. if it happens again.. it is recommended to do reball for a permanent fix of the heating problem..

ok...

bout considering a new one... i kinda hate the new slim design... yes its cheaper, lighter, less consumption on power and etc at rm1080 something but do know that the Phat ps3 cost a fraction of that as like rm500-rm900 depends on the package that they are selling...

yes i knew that reflow can only do once... this is because of tight budget that i have to opt for the reflow process ATM... Reball will be doing it in the future and pls do know that although u do reballing, chances are the YLOD will still struck again but only if u play like let say more that 3 hours a day... so it wouldn't be a permanent fix...

thanks... notworthy.gif

yes.. nothing last forever.. but reball is having new solder.. if used leaded is better n lasting..

i do agree that the older phat version looks better with the glossy finish and built quality.. plus some models have extra features that the slim do not have..

there is a difference between reball and reflow. the latter is temporary.

broken already broken la.

get a new one.

i know many of get Slim, so far ylod very low, i never head of it personally.

getting a ylod ps3 and fixing it again is already a bad mistake, as topping up a few hundred can get u a slim.

dont hate the slim just because of the design, the playstion R&D definately put effort into the Slim to improve it so that the old problem dont occur again.

bro, no offense but

Buying a ps3 slim example the cheapest rm1060 with free HDMI cable

compare to buying YLOD

ps3 without controller rm280
ylod service rm80
controller rm80
BD lens rm200
1 cheap blu ray game rm50

so that would rm690, still left with rm370 still can buy game, and etc... does it make sense now?

i know u would say that the YLOD will come back again wan, but here's the thing

1. im not that hardcore fan where on 5 hours non stop without letting it cool
2. i dun play much as i already have xbox 360...

so there is nothing justify me on saying that i need to get a new one... its just like

in a scenario EXAMPLE where your wife is sick and had a disease where it couldn't be cured. Instead of curing back ur wife, u said go find a new wife...

well yeah, i guess both of us are right at some point.

as you might put it, a student would buy a secondhand kelisa instead of a Vios cause he doesnt use it as much eventhou knowingly that kelisa would break down.

ok...

so just change the blu ray laser or...?

EDIT

apparently, i've done some researching and i found out that is not only the blu ray drive that is the problem, is the controller board on the ps3 itself is the problem... but im not 100% sure that is the problem... so any sifu here can clarify that?
